  1. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

  2. Some Early morning Discussion Questions: Why do we study prophecy? Why is it important? How do we benefit from knowing what the Lord has revealed? If the Lord has it all in control anyway, and people just seem to disagree about it why should we put any effort into studying, learning and teaching it?

  3. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

  4. 1 Thessalonians 5:1 • Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. What other translations do we have in the room for “the times and the epochs”? Why would they have no need that Paul would write to them about this topic? What is the significance of the fact that Paul does not need to write more to explain this?

  5. Acts 1:6-8 They therefore, being come together, asked him saying, Lord, is it at this time that thou restorest the kingdom to Israel? And he said to them, It is not yours to know times or seasons, which the Father has placed in his own authority; but ye will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

  6. 1 Thessalonians 5:1 • Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. What other translations do we have in the room for “the times and the epochs? Why would they have no need that Paul would write to them about this topic? What is the significance of the fact that Paul does not need to write more to explain this?

  7. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. Why do you think Paul uses the more potent phrase “know full well” regarding this issue? What do we know about this phrase “the Day of the Lord”? What is the significance of that day coming “like a thief in the night?

  8. 1 Thessalonians 5:3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. What might be the significance of the presence of “they are saying” in this passage, rather than simply “there is”? What is meant by the usual meaning of the word “peace”? “Safety”? Why does Paul use the graphic image of a woman in labor for this event? What parallels can be drawn from the image of a woman in labor to the tribulation period? Why does Paul add that “they will not escape”?

  9. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
