  1. About Us • Our team is for girls born after Aug 1, 1994 • We have an outstanding group of families and we have a lot of fun together • We have an excellent professional coach • We compete in the Washington Area Girls League (WAGS) in the top – most Competitive Group (Div 1) which contains the 10 best teams in the Washington-Baltimore area • We play in 6-10 tournaments per year

  2. Team Priorities: • Fun • Learning • The Pursuit of Excellence. Sportsmanship and learning the value of teamwork are very important

  3. It’s about Fun and Smiles

  4. Team Philosophy and Culture • Attitude is everything - always strive for excellence.  • Honor teamwork, commitment, and sportsmanship. • Promote personal fitness and healthy lifestyle choices. • Foster individual self-esteem, self-confidence, and leadership.   • Create sustaining memories and friendships.  • Winning is important, it builds confidence and measures our development. • Losing is inevitable; it builds character and tells us how and where we need to improve.  • Keep perspective and balance.  Smile, laugh, and enjoy the comedy of the game.

  5. Environment: • We want to create a supportive, positive environment • Will make time for “games” and social interaction in the proper time and place • Emphasize the “thinking” aspects of the game, particularly teamwork and communication • Focus on fundamentals – particularly footskills and passing • We work hard on top conditioning AND injury prevention with a PhD • Our kids are active in many things…we’re flexible

  6. Typical Annual Schedule • We’ll play between 22 and 28 games each season • Includes tournaments • Most games on Sundays • 2 practices/week at 1.5 hours • Often have scrimmages on Saturdays • WAGS – Throughout the Washington/Baltimore Area • 3-4 Tournaments each season, one remote & State Cup • Off Season – optional practices • Winter - 1 practice/week, 1 game/week • Summer – 1 week camp & weekly practices

  7. Coaches

  8. Advisors • Gary Smerdzinski/Advisor & part time trainer • Formed Chantilly Milan as U9 team • Milan are 6 time State Champion, 7 time region champion, ranked 1st Nationally (220-20-5 record)

  9. Expectations for Players • Kids will be expected to develop skills at home too: • Self motivation is great, encouragement is appreciated • Juggling (Juggling Ladder) • Foot skills • Playing in the backyard – kicking against a net or backboard • Playing in the neighborhood • Example, pitter patters with a tennis ball

  10. Expectations of Parents • We support cheering and supportive behavior • Things we don’t support: • Chastising players from the sidelines or in ride home • Giving them positioning guidance from sidelines • Questioning Ref calls or criticizing refs • “Coaching” from the sidelines…that’s our job • These young girls and our focus is fun • Help the kids learn good habits… • Be prepared, be organized, be good sportspersons, be supportive of teammates, smile and enjoy

  11. Summer Camp • Soccer camp 3rd week of August • Bring lunch, swimsuit, lots of water/gatorade, snacks, towel, spare clothes, spare socks • We will eat lunch at the pool and swim for fun and to cool off at lunchtime for 2 hrs (and stay out of the mid-day sun) • Pool Party/Pizza Wed Night – till 7pm • Older girls will help with practice (Several from State Champion Teams) • Costs (for Pizza party and for the older girls helping) included in Fall Budget
