The Cup – Communion, Passion For the King

“You only have time for one passion in life, choose it carefully.”

- Soren Kierkegaard

psalm 27 4 8
Psalm 27:4, 8

4. One thing I have asked from the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for and require: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold and gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to meditate, consider and inquire in His temple.

8. You have said, "Seek My face," my heart says to You, "Your face, Lord, will I seek, inquire for and require."

3 important questions
3 Important Questions
  • Question #1 – Seeking

“What is the most important thing on your agenda today?”

  • The Answer comes from Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God;     I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Philippians 3:13-14 NIV

13. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

14. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

“The past contains both victories and defeats. The enemy will often try to divert our focus to either, in an effort to withdraw our attention from the Lord and our divine destiny…. This singleness of purpose is paramount in our pursuit to know God and walk intimately with Him….” - Francis Frangipane
Truth Confession #1

My God and King I want to know You more. Please take my desire and make it a burning passion.

I confess that I want to seek You above all else and to make my time of communion with You the ultimate priority of my life.

I know that though You are always with me, I believe that You will meet me in a special way during these times.

question 2 gaze
Question #2 – Gaze
  • Where is your focus?
  • “One thing I have asked of the Lord…to behold and gaze on the beauty of the Lord…” Ps. 27:4
  • Behold – “to contemplate or to think about as you look upon in amazement”
  • Gaze – “to look at with fixed eyes”
  • The Beauty of the Lord – this is His splendor, glory and majesty
“You’ll be upset if you look at people too much; If you look around, you’ll be distracted; If you look within yourself, you’ll be discouraged; Only as you keep looking unto Jesus will you develop confidence and peace.”

- from Life’s Ultimate Privilege

Truth Confession #2

“I believe that Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth and that He rules over everything.

I believe that as I keep my eyes on Jesus and my focus set on Him that I will endure and prevail for His Glory.”

question 3 dwell
Question # 3 – Dwell

Are you soaking or just dipping?

  • Dwell – to abide, to remain, to stay
  • John 15:4-5
  • The secret of the sponge
“You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in You.” - Saint Augustine
  • The motivator and driver for dwelling with God is and always will be LOVE!
  • When we submerge ourselves in His love we literally get soaked with who He is. Are you dipping or soaking?
Seeking reveals our need for purity, passion and perseverance. (Jeremiah 29:13)

Gazing opens our eyes to His power, His perspective and His peace. (Isaiah 26:3)

Dwelling positions us in His presence, under His protection and on the paths of His purposes. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

“All of hell will militate against you becoming a man or woman of one thing. Satan will deploy whatever device will work – anything to keep you from becoming a person of one thing. Because if you find this attainment, you will become a passionate firebrand for God, set ablaze with fiery bridal passions for your Lord and you will be a dangerous weapon in the hand of your God for end timeexploits.”- Bob Sorge
truth confession 3
Truth Confession #3

In the strong name of Jesus Christ, my King, I stand against every force or influence that would seek to distract or detour me from the one thing I must do.

I confess that my pursuit of Christ and my expression of passion for Him is my first priority. I choose this day to dwell and remain in Him.
