  4. SRI SRI VIDYA MANDIR TRIBAL SCHOOL PROJECT Inspired by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder of Art of Living Foundation, the first Tribal School was started in 1999 in Jharkhand, India. Today, our 20 schools across India provide free education to 3,200 children, who are first generation learners in their villages.

What Student Say… Chandan, Passed High School in 2012-13 (this was said when he was in Class X) "Not only has Tribal School provided free education for me and my 3 younger sisters, it has also housed and clothed us when our father, followed by our mother, passed away a few years ago. I lost 2 years of study but they brought me back to school. This is my 10th year of education with Tribal School and I'm very grateful. After my college study, I aspire to become a Tribal School teacher to help bring education to more tribal children and learn towards a better future."

  10. What student Say… I have just passed out my school final examination and have scored 79% marks. I am happy not because of my academic performance but because of the values I learnt from my school. Knowledge from books is of course important, but more than those moral values we get from our elders and from school. To know your environment, to be aware of your duties are very important. This school taught me to be a world citizen. It taught me of my duties towards my elders, my village, and my community and to the nation as a whole. With all these qualities now I am sure to do something worthwhile in my life and contribute to the upliftment of the society.

  11. What Teacher Say… Since my joining in Sri Sri Vidyamandir, Hendaljuri high school, I have gained a lot of experience. First of all I have developed self-confidence. This assignment gave me an opportunity to learn how to communicate with the tribal children in a language they understand and appreciate. Sri Sri Vidyamandir is different from other schools in many ways. There are many facilities available here such as computer lab, mid day meal, yoga, medical check-up, singing, drawing, dancing and a well equipped teachers training centre. Here at Sri Sri Vidyamandir the essence of knowledge needed to be a perfect human being is imparted in a very effective manner. I am very happy and proud to be a part of this organization.   12. Anindita is both a teacher and a student. Married young, she dropped out of school. Now on a degree course alongside her daughter, she also teaches English at Tribal School: “I missed out education when I was young.   13. VOCATIONAL SKILL TRAINING Tailoring, sewing, craft-making skills to provide a service and generate income. Durga and Sunanda tailor school uniform after school hours to earn extra allowance. Both of them have passed High School are in Class XII.

  14. Babita comes from a Below Poverty Line family. Tribal School supports her education for the past 10 years. In Year 2013-14 passed High School with 89% marks. Today, she is a student leader in city college studying in Class XII with Science subjects. Even now Babitasews uniform and knits sweaters for the school to earn extra income for her family.   15. VOLUNTEERS ON SEVA The Yong Family from Singapore spent a month in Ghatsila. They organized art competition, imparted IT skills and raised fund. Robyn, 12, shared tips on using PowerPoint and the Internet. Ms Tulu, a professor in Ranchi University, volunteers as a weekend teacher and helps coach the local teachers.

  18. Healthy Body, Health Mind No fancy running tracks or sports facilities, but SPORTS and GAMES are an integral part of Tribal School programs, held in the natural environment.

  20. Just HOW POOR are the tribal children? Many cannot even afford a pair of slippers. They love school enough to endure walking BAREFOOTED on sun-baked roads to and from school.

  21. After school, it’s long way home. Some walk 1-3km, some cycle 5-6km, some take our free school bus 10km away and then cycle a further 5-6km. Your DONATION helps fund school bus and bicycles for tribal children to come to school.

  22. “I want to do good for my village. Education is the only way to give these children a better future and help their parents kick bad habits like drinking. Our students have brought education into their homes and transformed their families with knowledge in health, hygiene and moral values, and reduced their parents’ bad drinking and smoking habits.
