Every complete sentence has 2 parts… • Subject= noun or pronoun—”thing” sentence is about • Predicate= verb or verb phrase and everything after it. • Thedeerruns into the woods. Subject Predicate
Phrases & Clauses • A clause is a group of words that contain a subject and predicate. • Independent clause: a complete sentence • Subordinate/dependent clause: a fragment—incomplete sentence. • A phrase is a group of words that contain a subject OR a predicate—never both.
