Final Project • Montage • Casey Yancey
Project Idea • I decided for my project to revisit the montage piece we did. I absolutely disliked that project when we did it the first time so I wanted to challenge myself again. Since I have more freedom on what to create, I am hoping that I will enjoy the process more and be able to create something I will enjoy visually more so than last project. My idea for this montage is instead of taking other images online, I would like to take all my pictures or draw them and scan them in. Being a photo major this will be more along the lines of what I like to do. I’ve decided to do an abstract piece which is something I am unfamiliar with considering I normally do not do abstract art. The concept behind it will be a self portrait of myself. I think it will be interesting to make an abstract collage where I am the subject. The main theme will be about my feelings and emotions I feel rather than a visual or surface portrait of myself. I am planning on covering the main emotions I feel such as happiness, energy, freedom, anger, stress, and anxiety. I am not sure what I would like the final piece to look like. Because I want it to be abstract, my process will be to take pictures that I feel like convey the emotions I want to express then bring them all together on photoshop and find the abstract layout as I go. The ending result will not be literal and viewers most likely will not understand the exact concept unless/until it is spoken about and explained. I am hoping this project will allow me to give montages/collages a second chance because after the first project I decided I never want to go back and do another montage but I feel that’s unfair and I should try at least one more time!
Artists • Susan Adame’s collages have a contemporary abstract composition with a variety of color and texture. Each piece is a journey which has an underlying feeling of movement or flowing which unifies all the work together. • Bobbi Adams’ work is all from physical elements of the earth that has been grounded and transformed by water and fire. The physical elements they once were are given a new being which she creates herself. She considers it feminine work because to bear and to nurture is work of females. All her pieces are colorful and natural. • Eydi Lampasona’s work is inspired by ongoing processes in nature such as erosion, wear, rust, decay, etc. She has a complex method she uses many materials. Her goal is to strike a chord with the viewers.
Sketches • I am unable to provide sketches because the process I want to take is to first find all the material (photos and drawings done by myself) and then collage them together as I feel it belongs. So I am unaware of what the final piece will look like exactly besides it will be abstract and conveying my inner emotions.
