MIZO CM ZORAMTHANGA MEETS PM MODI, SEEKS INTERVENTION FOR CENTRE’S NOD TO NRC-LIKE BILL Aizawl: Chief Minis- ter Zoramthanga met Prime Minister Nar- endra Modi in New Delhi and appealed for clearing the NRC- like bill, aimed at de- tecting foreigners in Mizoram, that has been awaiting the Centre’s approval for months, officials said on Friday. In the meeting on Thursday evening, Zoramthanga sought Modi’s intervention to ensure that the Mi- zoram Maintenance of Household Regis- ter Bill, 2019 is imme- diately cleared by the central government and implemented in the state that shares an over 700-km bor- der with Bangladesh and Myanmar, they said. He told the prime minister that the bill seeks to identify genu- ine residents of the state and will also help to check arms smug- gling, drugs and hu- grammes are the state government. CM’s singing talent comes alive as Rajkot gears up for R-Day “grabbed” by such foreigners who clan- destinely stayed back and assimilated with the local people. The National Regis- ter of Citizen (NRC) was updated in Assam to detect foreigners staying illegally . A simi- lar nationwide exercise has also been proposed, leading to massive pro- tests across the country . However, the prime minister has clarified that there has been no discussion on it. Zoramthanga urged Modi for a sepa- rate cadre for Mizoram in civil services, sourc- es said. Mizoram falls under AGMUT (Arunachal PradeshGoa mUnion Territories) cadre. CM told Modi that the duration of postings under the AG- MUT cadre is too short to be well acquainted with the local issues, which inconveniences both the officers and man trafficking across the border, officials here said. The Mizoram Main- tenance of Household Register Bill, 2019 was passed by the state as- sembly on March 18 last year and the bill was sent to the governor for his assent. Then gover- nor Kummanam Ra- jasekharan ferred the bill to the Centre, according to of- ficial sources. The chief minister had met Modi, seek- ing his intervention for the nod to the bill on December 5 as well. Zoramthanga, who had introduced the bill in the assembly, had said that influx of illegal foreigners into the state through its porous borders has remained a seri- ous concern for sev- eral decades and in many cases, the ben- efits of development and welfare Have invited PM for ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’, says Nepal Foreign Min searchers, private sec- tors and civil socie- ties... There are various cultural as well as other issues that make the country what it is today 02 they heard. He then also high- lighted about political estrangement that has creeped into politics. “A Finance Minister is kept behind bars for 105 days without proof,” he said. Keeping the audi- ence’s interest in mind, Dwyer asked what does he think about his im- age of being a politi- cian, who enjoys the status of a major celeb- rity with his intellectu- al wit and charismatic persona. opined, “I think most politicians are hard- working, they just don’t get the due recognition. Moreover, being an LS MP, I have to constantly think about the people of my constituency and their concerns.” In the last leg of the session, he was asked about his mind-bog- gling vocabulary with a variety of newly coined words that often take the world by storm, Tharoor said, “ I was told by a media house to do a word of the week, I never thought anything unusual. We are coming up with interesting an- ecdotes, light hearted- illustrations. There was an idea that they would come out with a ‘Tha- roorsaurus, which was of course a word play on Thesaurus, but also sounds like a very scary dinosaur’ laughed, leaving the au- dience in splits. asked about if any sort of comedy exists in pol- itics, to which he gently replied saying, “ In In- dia it doesn’t work.” He then continued to describe through an incident of the past. In 2009, there was the infamous ‘cat- tle class’ tweet that the MP had posted. Tharoor said that he had no idea that his remark poking fun at the airline had caused such outrage till 23 hours later, when he landed in Liberia, when panicky calls from Del- hi informed him “the proverbial dung had hit the proverbial fan”. People called for his res- ignation and he was in a state of disbelief. “Fi- nally, after four days of front-page news, the prime minister (Man- mohan Singh) had to say, for god’s sake, it was a mere joke,” re- called Tharoor. The storm did die down but he learnt that innovation and intrud- ers are not welcome in Indian politics. The former UN diplo- mat proved his point by quoting the famous lines of Shakespeare: “ Prosperity of jest is not in tongue of the teller but in ear of the hear- er.” Adding further, he said that its the only thing that matters in Indian politics. He said that people don’t con- sider what one intended to say, but pay attention only to what they think sake of Hindu-Muslim unity in the country . ” Switching over to politics, the Cong vet- eran said that former Prime Minister of In- dia, Indira Gandhi had an entirely different vi- sion of coalition gov- ernment and the gov- ernment formed under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee also had their own vision of coalition government, but the current Modi government have a vision at all.” Adding further, he said, “There is a India be- yond politics. There are various cultural as well as other issues that make the country what it is today. There needs to be a creative Consti- tution.” Speaking about his homeland went on to say , “Onam is the biggest festival ob- served in Kerala. Its our Diwali and Christmas combined and not only this, Hindus, Muslims and Christians equally celebrate the festival with great vigour. The legend behind the festival is that there was a king named Ma- habali. 6. PERSPECTIVE THE NATURE OF THE SPIRITUAL PATH If each individual progresses in their own way, how will I know if I am making progress? 06 AHMEDABAD | SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 2020 www.fi rstindia.co.in I www.fi rstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefi rstindia I facebook.com/thefi rstindia I instagram.com/thefi rstindia IN-DEPTH SNAKES COULD BE THE SOURCE OF CORONAVIRUS S SADHGURU, ISHA FOUNDATION Ranked amongst the fifty most influential people in India, Sadhguru is a yogi, mystic, visionary and a New York Times bestselling author Sadhguru has been conferred the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India in 2017, the highest annual civilian award, accorded for exceptional and distinguished service nakes – the Chinese krait and the Chinese cobra – may be the origi- nal source of the newly discov- ered coronavirus that has trig- gered an outbreak of a deadly in- fectious respiratory illness in China this winter. The illness was first reported in late De- cember 2019 in Wuhan, a major city in cen- tral China, and has been rapidly spreading. Since then, sick travelers from Wuhan have infected people in China and other coun- tries, including the United States. Using samples of the virus isolated from patients, scientists in China have determined the genetic code of the virus and used microscopes to photograph it. The pathogen responsible for this pandemic is a new coronavirus. It’s in the same family of viruses as the well-known severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS- CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which have killed hundreds of people in the past 17 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV . We are virologists and journal editors and are closely following this outbreak because there are many questions that need to be answered to curb the spread of this public health threat. As many as 20,844 passengers from 96 flights have been screened for novel coro- navirus symptoms in India as of January 24, a statement from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. The health ministry said 4,082 passengers were screened in 19 flights on Friday . The statement also said that no case of novel coronavirus (nCoV) has been detected in the country so far. Three persons, however, have been put under observation, it added. A travel advisory has been extended to 12 more airports in addition to the current sev- en, the health ministry said. WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS? T he very word “spirituality” means that you are not trying to be like anybody. It does not matter what you want to be in the world, in some way you are trying to be like somebody. For example, if you aspire to be a musician, you probably have someone in mind who you want to play like. You are thinking of a certain kind of music because you heard somebody and it made an im- pression upon you. Whatever you do external- ly, you are always trying to either be like somebody or better than somebody. On the spiritual path, on the other hand, you are not try- ing to be like anybody, nor are you trying to be better than anybody. Such a state where just being yourself is more than enough, is the goal of spirituality. It is the experience that “Just sit- ting here, I am complete by my- self. I don’t need to become any- thing or make myself into something. If I simply sit here, the entire world is within me. I am so absolute, all existence is within me.” The ultimate goal is also such, and the process is also such, that it is not neces- sary to be like anybody. Each individual can be in his own way and still be progressing. “If each individual pro- gresses in their own way, how will I know if I am mak- ing progress?” When you walk on the in- ner path, why do you strug- gle to evaluate yourself? There is no need to evaluate. The evaluation and what needs to happen will happen in a completely different di- mension. You can’t do spir- ituality, you have to allow it. If you allow it, it will hap- pen. To allow spiritual growth you need a certain level of ma- turity which just lets you sit down and do nothing. You are willing to allow whatever hap- ton, neutron, and electron. All that is fine, but you will not know anything about the flower. The only “under- standing” that you need is, how you are bound at the material level. If you understand this and free yourself from those bondages, you will end up where you have to go. If I talk about the sky, it is no use. What are the ropes that are tying you down to earth? Your business is with these ropes that are ty- ing you down, not with the sky . Once you untie them, you reach the sky, and when you do, you will know what it is. A Guru’s work is to show you where these knots are and to help you untie them. When you come close to the edge, may- be just with one knot left, then he can push you. If he pushes you when you have many ropes tied down, it will damage you. He can push you only when everything is broken and just one single thread is hanging. He can af- ford to push you because you will not break, the rope will. But when you have ropes tied all over, if he pushes you, some- thing of you will break. pens. If something truly won- derful has to happen, you are not needed. On the other hand, if you are satisfied with petty happenings, you can do it. But if you really want something enormous to happen, you are not needed. If you know how to keep yourself aside, it will hap- pen. This, above all, must be un- derstood clearly: that which is not in your experience, cannot be understood. People are al- ways trying to “under- stand.” I recently saw a big book, “Understanding God.” They are even trying to un- derstanding God, that which created them! How do you get to understand that? You cannot understand anything which is in a different di- mension than you are. The whole effort is to move to a dif- ferent dimension. And if that is to happen, you must resist this urge to understand. You have to see that you cannot un- derstand, and there is no need to understand. It is experienc- ing, which takes you out of this dimension. Try to understand a flow- er and see, what will you un- To allow spiritual growth you need a certain level of maturity which just lets you sit down and do nothing. You are willing to allow whatever happens If you are satisfied with petty happenings, you can do it. But if you really want something enormous to happen, you are not needed. If you know how to keep yourself aside, it will happen The name of coronavirus comes from its shape, which resembles a crown or solar corona when imaged using an electron microscope. Coronavirus is transmitted through the air and primarily infects the upper respiratory and gastrointestinal tract of mammals and birds. Though most of the members of the coronavirus family only cause mild flu-like symptoms during infec- tion, SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV can infect both upper and lower airways and cause se- vere respiratory illness and other complica- tions in humans.
