  1. Welcome to Week 8! ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: There are many different ways to make meaning out of our experiences. QUIET WARM-UP: Journal 8 (10 mins) What’s a hard thing you’ve had to deal with in your life? What are at least two different ways you could look at it (In other words, what are two meanings you could create from it?) Example: I had to move a lot when I was young; I hated having to give up all my friends and start all over. One meaning: Life is unfair. You don’t have control over things, especially as a kid, and it can really mess you up. Another meaning: By moving a lot, I learned to deal with change, and I learned that I can deal with life, wherever I end up. I can find things to like about any place I’m in. Plus, I met some of my best friends in these different places, and I wouldn’t be the same person today without them. HW CHECK: 1) What Can You Commit To? (If you have it) Homework: 1) Read & annotate rest of Victor Frankl passages - due tomorrow 2) What Can You Commit To? due Monday after break

  4. Viktor Frankl Close Reading • With your table group, read each assigned quote slowly. Clarify meaning of unfamiliar words. • With your teammates, engage in discussion about the meaning and relevance of the quote, with one person designated as notetaker. • On post-its, write down the number of the quote and your group’s essential reactions and thoughts (you can use multiple post-its if you need them) • If you aren’t sure, you can use these as guiding questions: What is he saying/talking about? 2) New words and what they mean 3) What are your reactions?
