Current Situation - large #’s of pink slips given because of budget insecurity and laws mandating reinstatement on basis of seniority State Law Section16-2-9 (e): School Committee maintains a budget which does not result in debt: May only keep teachers on payroll if budget $$ exist to support their salaries. State Law Section 16-13-6 (b): Notice of suspension on or before March 1. State Law 16-13-6 (a): Suspension of teachers in the inverse order of their employment: Priority for teaching jobs given on the basis of seniority for individuals with similar certifications or teaching credentials. Pink Slips Job Fair Teachers reassigned. “Bumping” occurs. June July August September March School opens No school budget for next year. No funding formula for State aid to schools.
