  3. THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION And officially adopted by 13 states in 1790 Was written in 1787 • Has two main section: • The DOCUMENT • The AMENDAMENT* It’s also called the “ SUPREME LAW “ because no other laws may contradict any of its principles*

  4. THE AMERICAN SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT Is diveded in: 3 BRANCHES EXECUTIVE JUDICIAL LEGISLATIVE

  5. THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH • It is formed of: • The US PRESIDENT • The US VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN BARACK OBAMA

  6. THE PRESIDENT • Iselectedevery 4 years • Hecannot serve more than 2 terms • Is the Head of the State • Is the Head of the ArmedForces • Is the Head ofFederalGovernment He live in the White House in Washington, where he do all his assignments.

  7. THEVICE PRESIDENT He is ready to take over the Presidency if it is required. He’s elected with the President and he rarely presides over the Senate • He Represent the President in cause of: • Death • Resignation • Temporary incapacitation • If the President is not longer able to discharge his duties

  8. THECABINET The Cabinet is responsable for the administration of the Federal Laws

  9. THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH Is the LAW-MAKING BODY The Constitution grants the CONGRESS • Is formed by: • The SENATE • The HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

  10. THE SENATE Is composed of 100 senators, 2 for each State. Is under the Presidency or the Vice President.

  11. THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Is made up of 435 elected members. In addition there are 6 non-voting members of DC, Puerto Rico and other 5 territories. It can initiate REVENUE BILLS.

  12. THE JUDICIAL BRANCH Its task is to check if everything is constitutional Lower courts must follow the decisions taken by the Supreme Court It belongs to the Supreme Court

  13. THE SYSTEM OF OPERATION • The powers are decentralized in 3 tiers: • the statewide tiers • the county • the township There is also a federal district existing, the District of Columbia, which does not make part of any state and is under the authority of the Congress The system is based on a parallel jurisdiction between federal government and the individual states.
