Our project delves into the historical significances of John Peter Zenger’s trial and its impact on freedom of speech in America. Zenger was arrested for criticizing the British government and faced severe bail, but he successfully argued his right to free expression, shaping future discussions about censorship and civil liberties. We also examine the Tinker case, where John and Mary Beth Tinker protested the Vietnam War by wearing black arm bands, challenging school policies. Their Supreme Court victory further solidified students' rights to free speech in educational settings, making both cases pivotal in American legal history.
