  1. COAST VINEYARD TEACHING SERIES: The gospel of luke

  2. Luke 4:1-13 • 4:1 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, 2 where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. 3 Then the devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, change this stone into a loaf of bread." 4 But Jesus told him, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People do not live by bread alone.' " 5 Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 "I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them," the devil said, "because they are mine to give to anyone I please. 7 I will give it all to you if you will worship me." 8 Jesus replied, "The Scriptures say, 'You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.' “

  3. Luke 4:1-13 continued • 9 Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, "If you are the Son of God, jump off! 10 For the Scriptures say, 'He will order his angels to protect and guard you. 11 And they will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.' " 12 Jesus responded, "The Scriptures also say, 'You must not test the Lord your God.' " 13 When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.

  4. Philippians 2:1-5 • Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

  5. Philippians 2:6-11 • Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  6. Light for our path… • Jesus baptized – and received the Holy Spirit • JESUS – ADAM CONNECTION • FULL POTENTIAL OF HUMANITY • CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD • JESUS FULLY HUMAN • PARTICIPATE IN THE DIVINE NATURE • JESUS EXPERIENCING GOD THE WAY WE CAN • PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMUNION OF THE DIVINE TRINITY
