  1. LIVE IT. LOVE IT. VISIT NORTH EAST ENGLAND.

  2. Lesson Objectives • To build on what we have learnt about fact and opinion yesterday. • To look at how fact and opinion are combined in certain kinds of writing. • To have a go ourselves at balancing fact and opinion in a piece of promotional writing.

  3. Visit the North East • Watch the clip about visiting the North East of England • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzG1MRJEwWA

  4. Visit the North East When does a place become part of you? When its history echoes down to you through the ages When its wilderness speaks and you understand When the tempo picks up as the sun goes down When you’re in North East England • How many facts are there in this commentary for a promotional film? • How many opinions? • Who is it aimed at? • How do you know?

  5. Visit the North East • Your task today is to create an information poster using the facts and opinions you have been given to persuade people to visit one special place in the North East.

  6. Visit the North East • You cannot simply stick your facts & opinions onto the poster; you must create a new document which interweaves several bits of the information you have been given persuasively • First read the information carefully and look at the pictures • Then find out if anyone in the group knows anything else of interest about the place. Has anyone been there? • Extra marks will be awarded to groups who add information from their own knowledge • Your aim is to make as many different groups of people as possible want to visit the site. • Try to use language which makes the site sound appealing

  7. Make a Pitch! • Now is the time to present your promotional concept to the dragons (Stanley and Mays) • We will be selecting one of your sites to be the main tourist attraction in our new GO NORTH EAST brochure and you must persuade us through your poster presentation that your sire is the one we should choose .
