  3. Take a minute to think about… • What technology do you currently utilize in your classroom? • Why these technology tools? What makes them so special? • When introducing a new tech tool, what features are you looking for?

  7. Toggles, Buttons and Ports Power Button & Rear Camera Front Camera Headphone port Volume Controls/Lock Rotation On/App Toggle Charger Connection Speaker

  8. Navigate Desktop Wireless or cell signal strength Battery life Time • Swipe to see more icons • Delete Apps- hold app down (Reinstall- App Catalog) • Create “folders”- drag app into another app • Take a few minutes to explore! • Frequently used icons can be moved to bottom area

  9. Settings Scavenger Hunt • Wi-Fi • Bluetooth • General-Auto-Lock • General-Passcode • Brightness/Wallpaper • Setup Email

  10. iPad Settings • Under Settings> General> About- answer these questions with a partner. -Number of Applications? -Capacity? Available? • Settings> General> Usage- -Storage GB used? -What Apps take up the most space? Least space?

Settings Wi-Fi: On/Off toggle, shows available wireless network signals & allows connecting to them Airplane mode: Turns off your Wi-Fi/Cell signal to comply w/ regs while airborne Notifications: Alert-type sounds associated with certain apps Picture Frame: lets you turn your iPad into an electronic photo album Brightness/Wallpaper: Background images pre- and post-swipe, screen brightness, wallpaper Location Svcs: Lets certain apps “know” where you are, if needed.

  12. Settings Bluetooth: On/Off to sync wireless devices (keyboards, mice, printers, headphones) Spotlight Search: What do you want your iPad to search? Auto-Lock: When your iPad turns off if left untouched Passcode Lock: code you have to input when you first slide your iPad on.

  13. Add a Passcode • Turn ON-Settings> General> Passcode Lock> Turn Passcode ON> Enter Passcode twice • Turn OFF- Settings> General> Passcode Lock> Enter Passcode>Turn Passcode OFF> Enter Passcode • Create a Passcode 1-2-3-4

  14. Set up Email • Set up your school Gmail account • Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Add Account> Gmail • Check, send, forward, invite, delete, etc. • Can have multiple email accounts, contacts, calendars. • Add a “Signature” to your emails

  15. Wallpaper • Change the Wallpaper for your Lock Screen and Home Screen • Settings> Brightness & Wallpaper> Select • Photos> Export Button > Use as Wallpaper • Find a pic online> hold down on the pic> select “save image”

  16. App Store • June 2013 - 900,000 and counting • Educational Apps- 96,000+ (20,000+ for iPad only)

  17. Apps Store – Education • In the Search box, type in “Algebra” and click on the search button • How many selections are there? • Tip- Search by-Education & Ratings • Use App Search Engines (uQuery/Quixey)

  18. Apps Store – Create an Apple ID • Search for a free app and Download • Press FREE icon> Install App > Create New Apple ID/ Use Existing Apple ID • FYI- Billing info • select ‘None’

  19. Create an Apple ID account • Open App Store and select Featured • Sign out of current Apple ID (bottom Lt) • Create account- Download a free app and follow the steps • FYI- Billing info select ‘None’

  20. Search Results • Now try a Search for the following: • Ancient Egypt • Spelling Apps • Volcano Apps • Phonics Apps • Planets and Stars • Or search your subject or grade level material

  31. iCloud • Backs up your iPad to Apple’s network of servers • 5 GB storage (doesn’t include music, video) • Syncs a copy of photos, contacts, email, calendar, Safari bookmarks, notes, documents & data reminders • Settings> iCloud> Sign in with your Apple ID

  32. What an iPad Can Do • Instant on • Multi-touch interface • Multi-tasking • Apps! Apps! Apps! • GPS and Gyroscope • Front and Rear Cameras • Print via Bluetooth • Project to LCD projectors and Apple TVs

  33. iPad Limitations • No Microsoft Office Suite- an App is required • Not all file types natively supported • No visible file structure • Apps are not full-fledged programs • Can’t print to non-Bluetooth printers • No Java Script- App is needed • Run two Apps at once (No split screens) • No external storage or USB port • One profile only/No multiple users

  34. iPad Tips and Tricks • Undo Typing- wiggle iPad when typing • Hold “.com “ for additional options • Speak selected text- Settings> General> Accessibility> Speak Selection> ON • Create Webpage Thumbnail Icon- In Safari>export button> Click “Add to Home Screen” • Jump to Another App- Double click Home icon and select App from the bottom of the page OR swipe across the screen with 4-5 fingers.

  35. iPad Tips and Tricks Part 2 6. Change your Default Email Signature- Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Signature 7. Super Fast Scrolling- When on the bottom of a webpage tap above the URL 8. Spotlight Search- Find any items on your iPad-From the Home Screen swipe Lt to Rt OR Press the Home button 9. Use the Magnifying Glass- press and hold finger in the right area 10. Add Google Calendar to the iPad's Calendar app-Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Add an account and tap on Other> Tap on Add CalDAV Account and enter your Google Account credentials (the Server is www.google.com). (Exit the Settings and tap on the Calendar app and all your events should appear. You can tap on the Calendars button to choose which ones are shown.)

  36. iPad Tips and Tricks Part 3 11. International Keyboard- Settings> General> International> Keyboards> Add a new Keyboard (When typing, select globe icon next to the space bar) 12. Cut, Copy, and Paste- tap paragraph 4 times OR tap word and use handles to select text> Copy, then tp where you want the text and select Paste. 13. Home Screen Screenshot- click Home and Power button together 14. -iPad battery life Drag the brightness slider (under Settings, Brightness) as low as you can stand, turn off both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (under Settings), don't play videos or music, and avoid gaming apps. 15. Close an App- bring 5 fingers together OR select the Home icon

  37. Multi-Tasking • Double-click Home button • Multi-tasking menu • Any recently opened apps- running in background • Slide and choose another app • Click Home to toggle back • Can run iPod feature in background (play music while working)

Apple TV-Enable AirPlay Mirroring • Connect iPad and your Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network • Double-click the Home button • Swipe from left to right until you see the AirPlay icon • Tap the AirPlay icon,  to display a list of available AirPlay devices. • Select the name of your Apple TV, then toggle the ON/OFF slider to ON.

  39. No Apple TV- NOT in App Store • AirServer ($14.99/$3.99) • Reflector- ($12.99 ) • AirPlay receiver, similar to an Apple TV, so you can stream content or Mirror your display from your iOS devices

  40. iPad in the Classroom • Take a minute to brainstorm a few ideas on how you would implement an iPad in your classroom. • What would YOU be doing? • What would your STUDENTS be doing? • Use an app like Notes, Notability, or Pages

PD Project • Partner up and select an app to evaluate. • Post information on www.ipadefseaff.pbworks.com • Claim your app on the Google doc list • Think about how this app can benefit your classroom (Any K-12 Classroom). How could you use it the first week of school or after? How is it going to change the way you deliver instruction? • Finish with posting info in the correct Google Spreadsheet.

Extra Assignments 3- Keynote • Objective- Practice the features in Keynote • Select Plus sign (upper left) and Create Presentation • Choose a Theme and then Insert Text- Add your name • Add/Edit an Image- Use Camera Roll • Add Slides- lower left plus sign • Add other Objects- Tables, Charts, Shapes 9Plus- upper Rt) • Format Objects- (paint brush) Change Style/Arrange • Tools- Transitions/Builds

Wrap Up • Please DELETE your Passcode- Settings> General> Passcode Lock> Enter Passcode>Turn Passcode OFF> Enter Passcode • Please DELETE your email account-Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Mail Account> Delete Account- bottom • Please Sign OUT of your Apple ID- Open App Store and select Featured> Sign out of current Apple ID (bottom Lt) • Please breakdown all folders and return apps to original locations. (Hold folder icon down> Open> Remove apps) • Complete TIME CARDS before leaving
