  1. A Digital Video Yearbook Grandview Heights High School Presenter: Elizabeth Kolb High School Technology Teacher and Coordinator

  2. The Idea! • Create a digital video yearbook that will be produced 3 ways: • CD-ROM in quicktime format ($6.00) • DVD ($18.00) • VHS tape ($8.00)

  3. The Funding • Received a grant from the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Education Association for $2,500.00 • Received a grant from the PAC committee for $1,000.00 • Future funding will come from the revenues of yearbook sales.

  4. The Equipment • Macintosh Lab with 20 G4 computers with 128 MB of RAM and 12 GB Hard Drive. • 2 Digital Video Camcorders with Firewire and S-Video: • Canon Optura ($1400), Canon ZR10 ($700) • I-Movie or Adobe Premiere Software. • Adobe PhotoShop and Macromedia Freehand for the Desktop Publishing.

  5. The Equipment Cont’ • DVD Burner (G4 Superdrive or Pioneer) and iDVD Software • High-end inkjet printer for Desktop Publishing. (Epson 900 series) • VCR or Digitizer that will convert analog and digital. Needs S-Video and Audio/Video IN/OUT.

  6. Materials • Blank CD-R’s ($.19 each), Blank DVD’s ($12-18 each), Blank VHS tapes 120 minute ($3-5.00 each) • Blank Jewel Cases • Jewel Case Insert labels for the printer • Stomper ($25.00) • Lots of Ink for printer • Mini DV tapes for the Camcorders

  7. Timeline: Beginning of School year-End of First Semester • Students decide what they want to include in yearbook, create a Master List • Students sign up to video tape. • Students will learn how to use cameras and proper taping techniques before taping.

  8. Time Line:2nd Semester • Continue to Sign up and Video Tape January • Students will decide “sections” of the video yearbook. (fall sports, winter sports, clubs/activities, dances…) and the order of the sections in the final tape. STORYBOARD • Students sign up for the section that they will be in charge of.

  9. Time Line:2nd Semester February • Students will learn how to use editing software and editing techniques. • Students begin to edit film footage on G4 computers (use Firewire ports) • Continue to Video Tape.

  10. Time Line:2nd Semester End of March • Students critique all editing completed so far with a two day “viewing.” • Students make corrections on editing • Students continue to edit film

  11. Time Line:2nd Semester April • Students write Music Company’s for rights to music. • Students each design a video yearbook logo/cover using PhotoShop and Freehand. • Students select best design. • Winning design student creates a Flash Animation introduction with logo for yearbook. • Print out Logos for CD-ROMs, DVD’s, and Tapes.

  12. Time Line:2nd Semester May • All orders in. • Final video editing and one more critique “viewing.” • Put all completed sections of video together. • Copy onto Tapes, DVD’s, and CD-ROMS. • Students Compile.

  13. Cross-Curricular IDeas • Artwork for logo/covers created by Art Classes • Advertising and Sales by Business Classes • Editing done by English Classes
