Understanding Variables: Their Role in Environmental Change and Historical Impact

In this six-week exploration, we'll uncover the meaning of variables and how they influence change across various contexts. From Earth’s dynamic systems like plate tectonics and weathering to historical trends such as industrialization and immigration, we will investigate how these factors create both positive and negative outcomes. Join us in examining the reasons why identifying variables is crucial and how they interrelate to shape our world and history, particularly during pivotal moments from 1850 to 1929.

  1. How Variables Cause Change

  2. What is a variable? A variable is something that is likely to change or vary.

  3. During this six weeks….. we will see that variables can be identified, controlled, and manipulated to cause positive and negative outcomes.

  4. We will also discover the variables that can change the Earth such as plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, weathering, and erosion.

  5. From 1850-1929, historic variables impacted our country. You can learn that industrialization, immigration, and urbanization caused changes in the environment of the United States.

  6. We hope you are ready to explore variables from the perspective of student, scientist, and historian.

  7. Guiding Questions: • Why is identifying variables important? • How do the variables that change the Earth's surface affect each other? • Why did historic variables have such an impact on our country during 1850-1929?
