  3. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . John 2 - Miracle at Cana 1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; 2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were six stone water pots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. 4. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. 9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, 10 and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. 6. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . Behind the Screen Mary notices that the servants are talking in low voices to the steward, who looks very embarrassed and She understands what the cause of the unpleasant situation is. “Son”, She whispers in a low voice, thus drawing Jesus' attention. “Son, they have no more wine” “Woman, what is there still between Me and You?” Jesus, when saying these words, smiles even more gently, and Mary smiles too, like two people aware of some truth which is their joyful secret and is ignored by everyone else. 7. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . General Reflection Fulton Sheen in his book on “Life of Christ” says that the disciples accompanied Jesus for the wedding are: John, Andrew, Peter, Philip and Nathanael. Mary was the instrument of His first miracle. She was the initiatress of Jesus’ miraculous activity and the first benefactress of mankind. This is the only occasion in the life of Our Lord where Mary is mentioned before her Son. Marian Gospel Research Center

  8. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . Jesus would Think of His Mother: # Mary, My mother gave me life, first, to the world as the Messiah. # From this moment Mary initiated My Father’s Plan, the saving mission of the whole mankind. It is My second birth from the past hidden life of 30 years. # Mary’s third sublime mystical maternity will take place when She bore Me to the cross in the torture of Golgotha, and made Me the Redeemer of the world. 10. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . What is the special significance of this wedding feast story in your mind? Marian Gospel Research Center

  11. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . Blessed Virgin Mary is our Advocate, Helper, Benefactress and Mediatrix. CCC969 In his encyclicalRedemptoris Mater, Pope John Paul II said: Thus there is a mediation: Mary places herself between her Son and mankind in the reality of their wants, needs and sufferings. She puts herself "in the middle," that is to say she acts as a mediatrix not as an outsider, but in her position as mother. She knows that as such she can point out to her Son the needs of mankind, and in fact, she "has the right" to do so. Her mediation is thus in the nature of intercession: Mary "intercedes" for mankind. Marian Gospel Research Center

  12. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . The Gospel reveals to us how Mary prays and intercedes in faith. At Cana, the mother of Jesus asks her son for the needs of a wedding feast; this is the sign of another feast - that of the wedding of the Lamb where he gives his body and blood at the request of the Church, his Bride. It is at the hour of the New Covenant, at the foot of the cross, that Mary is heard as the Woman, the new Eve, the true "Mother of all the living.” CCC 2618 Marian Gospel Research Center

  13. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . God willed that the Revelation of the New Testament should include this important teaching: so influential is our Lady’s intercession that God will listen to all petitions made through her; which is why Christian piety with theological accuracy, has called our Lady ‘supplicant omnipotence’. 14. The Wedding Feast of Cana . . The primary aim of Mary was that her Son is to be manifested. Mary’s maternal task was in her words to the servants: “Do whatever He tells you.” King Solomon’s mother Bathsheba was called as “queen mother” and was given a seat at his right of the throne. Mary is the “Queen Mother” of Our eternal King Jesus. Marian Gospel Research Center
