  2. Definition Of A Slope The Slope of a line is determined by the ratio between any two points that lie on the line. All linear relationships have a constant rate of change. The slope of a line is what determines how steep or flat it looks on a graph . Anahi Perales

  3. SLOPE VOCABULARY • Linear Equation: an equation whose graph is a line • Y-Intercept- the y-coordinate of the point where a line crosses the y-axis • Slope-Intercept Form- x=mx+b where m=slope & b=y-intercept Anahi Perales

  4. Graphing lines in slope-intercept form Formula for slope interceptform = y = mx + b RATE OF CHANGE & SLOPE In Algebra, slope is defined as the rise over the run. This is written as a fraction like this SLOPE= RISE RUN Slope Formula: SSISLY GARCIA

  5. SLOPE OF A LINE The rise is how much you rise in the graph . It tells you how much to go up or down. The run is how much you move to the left or right in the graph If line goes up from LEFT TO RIGHT , it’s called a POSITIVE SLOPE. If line goes from RIGHT TO LEFT , it’s called a NEGATIVE SLOPE. SSISLY GARCIA

  6. Examples Graph a line with a slope of 1 and a y- intercept of -4 0 Cierra Suire

  7. Example Slope= 1 Y INTERCEPT = +4 Cierra Suire

  8. Rules on how to graph slope The slope of a line is the ratio of the change in y over the change in x. Simply put, find the difference of both the y and x coordinates and place them in a ratio. Pick two points on the line. Because you are using two sets of ordered pairs both having x and y values, a subscript must be used to distinguish between the two values. Juanita Lozano

  9. Example of slope intercept In general slope intercept formula is y=mx+b. *m-slope of a line *b- the y-intercept y=5x+3 is an example of the Slope Intercept Form and represents the equation of a line with a slope of 5 and a y-intercept of 3 . y= −2x + 6 represents the equation of a line with a slope of −2 and a y-intercept of 6 . Juanita Lozano

  10. Word problem for slope The average lifespan of American women has been tracked, and the model for the data is y = 0.2t + 73, where t = 0 corresponds to 1960.  Explain the meaning of the slope and y-intercept. What was the slope? It is m = 0.2 because it increase by 1 in the input variable t (that is for every year that it increases) the value of the output y would increase by 0.2 Yecenia Hernandez
