CIP FY15 Final Statistics • ECIP and CIP print galleys processed • 47,780; -5% from FY14 • ECIP Participating publishers • 5,354; -1% from FY14 • EPCN’s processed • 52,070: -1% from FY14 • EPCN Participating Publishers • 68,710; -1% from FY14 • Total monographs received (ECIP and EPCN) • 96,466; -1% from FY14 • Total value of monographs received • Approx. $9.2 million • ECIP Cataloging Partnership Program • 7,336 ECIPs processed; +15% • 15% of total processed (47,780)
FY16 CIP and ECIP Cataloging Partnership Program Statistics (8th month review) • ECIP and CIP print galleys processed • 35,997 Total (October 1, 2016 – May 31, 2016) • On track to process approx. 54,000 ECIPs in FY16 • If projection turns out, a 13% increase from FY15 • ECIP Cataloging Partnership Program • 5,136 Total (October 1, 2015 – May 31, 2016) • Partners have completed 14% of total processed to date for FY16 • On track for partners to process approx. 7,704 ECIPs in FY16 • If projection turns out, a 5% increase over FY15
CIP E-books Update • Began ingesting CIP e-books for LC permanent collections in July 2014 • 36 publishers currently sending LC their e-books • 869 publishers have joined the CIP e-book program • 14,526 metadata records created for CIP e-books that LC can request for the collections • Developed a plan to contact publishers to receive more e-books • FY16 Goal is to create bib records for 5,000 e-books • 6,137 CIP e-books have been ingested into LC’s permanent collections as of May 31, 2016 • CIP e-books currently suppressed within LC catalog – do not have a mechanism to access them • CIP e-book records are disseminated to OCLC and other providers through LC channels • Valued by OCLC and vendors for their high quality
ECIP Cataloging Partnership Program • 32 Current partners • BIBCO requirement dropped in January 2016; NACO membership only requirement • New additions since June 2015 • GPO • University of Colorado, Boulder • Abilene Christian University • Mississippi State University • Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary • New subject areas and publishers reassigned to partners since June 2015 • University of Chicago—Egyptology and Medieval Philosophy • Georgetown University—Middle Eastern Studies • UNC, Chapel Hill—History of the South • Harvard-Harvard Education Press and Harvard Business Review Press • In discussions with several other potential partners • Joining the program now requires signing a Partnership Agreement Letter with the Library of Congress
Consolidated Traffic Manager • Replace the legacy ECIP Traffic Manager in use since 2000 • Provide better internal tracking and reporting • Create an automated application process for ISSN • Work with developers via government contract since July 2015 to create 3 separate but related modules for CIP, PCN, ISSN • Train internal LC staff and partners in July-August 2016 • Implement CTM in early September 2016
International CIP Program • Brochure created in English and Spanish to publicize the CIP Program • CIP web pages translated into Spanish for use by U.S. publishers who principally publish materials in Spanish as well as publishers in Puerto Rico • Still investigating feasibility of pilots in Egypt and South America
CIP and Dewey Section • CIP and Dewey Section within the USPRLL Division merged effective Feb. 7, 2016 • Convergence between CIP and Dewey sections: • Most of DDC assignments are for ECIPs • Cross training between CIP and Dewey staff already taking place • Recruiting more partners who classify using DDC to bolster DDC assignments at LC • Greater flexibility in how the staff in both sections perform their functions • Structure: • CIP Program Specialists (2 + posting for a 3rd) • Dewey classifiers (4) • CIP Publisher Liaison Team (8 + team lead) • CIP Technical Team (4 + team lead [vacant—posted])
