  2. John Lennon’s Life • Born John Winston Lennon, on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. • Was shot and killed on December 8, 1980. • He grew up with his Aunt Mimi, his dad left him and his mother when John was only a baby. • Was one of the founders of one of the most well-known bands of all time, The Beatles. • He had two kids.

  3. The Beatles • John first met George Harrison in 1959, and together they called themselves “Johnny and the Moondogs”, but they never got their big break. In 1962, Ringo Starr joined the group, as did Paul McCartney. They signed with Parlophone Records, and released their first record “Love Me Do.” In 1963, The Beatles popularity spread throughout England, and eventually they reached #1. in 1964, “I want to hold your hand” reached #1 in the US. Their creative and revolutionary leadership in the world of music thereafter was unchallenged.

  4. Yoko Ono & the end of The Beatles • The success of The Beatles was unbeatable. But in March of 1966, John infamously declared that The Beatles had ‘become more popular than Jesus Christ’, and that led to their temporary ban in the American airwaves. In October of 1968, John met Yoko Ono, a Japanese environmentalist, artist. They wrote songs together, and released their first album “Unfinished Music Number One: Two Virgins.” Eventually, they ended up getting married, and instead of a normal wedding, they spent it protesting against the war in Vietnam. and In 1969, The Beatles recorded their last album, “Abbey Road.” Many fans blamed Yoko Ono for the break-up. In January1969, The Beatles made their last live public appearance on the rooftop of Apple Studios. In 1970, the band officially split.

  5. Yoko and John • In September 1971, they moved to the United States, and in 1975, they had a son named Sean Ono Taro Lennon, who was born on John’s birthday. In 1976, he announced that he was going to leave the public eye and be a househusband. After the 5 year break, John worked with Yoko and they produced “Double Fantasy” which people considered some of John’s best work.

  6. John Lennon’s Death • On December 8, 1980, a deranged fan named Mark David Chapman shot John to death outside of John’s New York Apartment building. Lennon’s death led his music to worldwide recognition, and his song “Starting Over” got to #1 in the US. For a man who lived a hectic life, his hopes for the future were modest. He didn’t invent rock and roll, but he did shake it up, and add something to it that has never been done before. Instead of writing nonsense lyrics, John wrote about life, and the way we should be living it. As an artist, he changed the music business forever, and as a human being, he set an example of honesty, courage, and things that every person only dreams about being.
