Camp roles and responsibilities**Color team members and leaders Red (~4-6) • All members • Plan and execute age-specific program • Establish and maintain rapport with campers • Provide primary guidance and discipline (when necessary) to campers • Oversee sleep time / ensure adequate rest • Team leaders • In addition to above, primary responsibility for moving team forward Orange (~7-9) Blue (~10-12) Green (~13-16) Yellow (~17-20) Purple (~21+) **See more details from Sr. Zahra Haji at end

Camp roles and responsibilities**Camp-wide activity leaders (not age-specific) • Camp-wide sports (~2 hours on Saturday): • Responsibility: plan, set-up, and run • Sports typically involve volleyball, soccer, basketball, kickball, others • Varies in degree of structure; e.g., pre-defined teams vs. free-time • Sisters’ may want special offerings during this time • Wacky Olympics (~2 hours on Saturday): • Responsibility: Plan, set-up, and run • 3-5 events, mostly relay-style; also traditional tug-of-war • Structure a must • Saturday night entertainment (~1.5 hours): • Goal: to showcase talent within the camp • Responsibility: plan program (identify acts), host show, help in putting together some acts (e.g., facilitating skit) • Previous acts have included musical performances, skits, stand-up comedy, poetry reading • Sunday slideshow (intermittent throughout camp and ~30 – 60 minutes on Sunday): • Oversee photography / video taping of camp activities from Friday to Saturday night • Put together slide show and present on Sunday

Proposed Timeline • Thursday, 4/15: initial planning teleconference • Thursday, 5/13: Color team leaders and camp-wide activity leaders post first drafts of programs • Thursday, 6/3: • Color team leaders and camp-wide activity leaders post second drafts of programs • conference call that evening to present programs for input (all staff) • Sunday, 6/6 (or 6/13?): In-person meeting for all Color team members : “On being a counselor & behavior management techniques” (optional for camp-wide activity leaders) • Friday, 6/18: Camp begins!

The Planning Process at its Core Major task Identify an Outcome Goal & Objectives for each age group (for color teams) or the entire camp (camp-wide activity leaders) Example: Outcome goal: Green group campers will identify and explain 5 pillars of Islam. Objective 1: Green group campers will independently pray 5 times a day for all days of camp. Objective 2: Green group campers will verbally engage in interactive discussion relating to the purposes of Ramadan during one structured activity block. ** These “Outcome goals & Objectives” may need to be shifted to the responsibility of each team. Once goals & objectives are identified: (1) then the teams should begin planning the weekend using “ an activity-based” approach/matrix and embed the objectives into the activity. This makes for a very clear and concise plan for the weekend. There is no guesswork, no last minute planning, no “bag of tricks” approach. Each team should thoughtfully plan out their events to ensure that there is a mixture of fun and content appropriate material/discussions that reflect the nature of the camp. I suggest a ratio of 70% activities are interactive/fun etc. and 30% are focused discussion. This calculation can easily be made by dividing out the number of blocks/total blocks.
