  3. PSAT Informational Meeting • What is it? • Who, When and Where? • Why take it? • How to get ready? • Scores?

  4. What is it? • College Board Assessment • Preliminary SAT • Diagnostic Tool • Serves as the foundation for understanding students’ progress as they enter high school • Early indicator of college readiness • Aligned with SAT in order to provide study information for that assessment

  5. Who? When? • Who: 9th, 10th, 11th graders • When: Wednesday, October 30th • STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN CALCULATOR! • A scientific or graphing calculator is recommended • Students should bring a familiar calculator – test day is not the time to figure out how to use a new calculator

  10. CHOMP TIME Chomp time is an hour and five minutes long. Students will have 30 minutes of lunch and 30 minutes of tutorials with a 5 minute transition between.A-L will have one lunch and M-Z will have the alternate. Each day their lunch time will alternate.In order for chomp time to stay flexible, student must demonstrate maturity and meet campus behavior expectations.

Endorsements An endorsement is the broad career direction each student chose 8th grade yearWithin each endorsement are more specific career pathways For example: Public Service is the Endorsement Heath Science is the PathwayEach student’s endorsement is available under the Endorsement tab in Skyward.Parents must sign off on their student’s chosen endorsement in Skyward

  16. Grades-GPA • Based on final semester grades • Determines rank in class • Updated each semester • Used for college and scholarships • Check SKYWARD regularly • If there is an issue, contact the teacher first. Refer to Page 10 in Academic Handbook to view the grading scale.

  17. CREDITS • Must receive 70 or higher to earn credit • Excessive absences and tardies can result in loss of credit for the course • Can earn 7 credits per year • You need 6 credits to go to 10th grade

  18. Tips for a successful year • Prioritize time and interests • Commit a minimum of three hours of out of class time per week for each course • Be positive • Maintain a planner to keep track of assignments • Develop strong study habits

AP/Pre-AP Reminders • Next exit point for AP/Pre-AP courses -end of the 1st 9 weeks grading period • Students who are failing will be moved to the respective academic course • Students with a 65-69 may remain as long as student, parent, and teacher agree student has ability to pass • Last exit point – Student who are failing at semester will be removed for 2ndsemester. • Students may exit at semester. Parent must contact the counselor before winter break.

AP Exam Registration • ONLY for AP Human Geography • Students are expected to take the AP Exam • CollegeBoard has changed the registration process • Students will have to register by November. • Dr. Estes will be emailing details to the parents of students who are in an AP class next week. Please be on the lookout for those emails • The AP teachers are working with the students on the registration process.
