  1. DHCP Option for Home Information Discovery in MIPv6(draft-jang-mip6-hiopt-00.txt) HeeJin Jang Alper Yegin JinHyeock Choi Samsung AIT Kuntal Chowdhury Starent Networks

  2. Introduction • Key idea • To provide MIPv6 home information through DHCPv6 in the access network • Updated from draft-jang-dhc-haopt-02.txt • Changes • Extended to include not only home subnet prefix and HA address but also home address of MN based on WG feedbacks and WiMAX=m spd. • Specific vendor option for MIPv4 already exists. • RFC2132 (DHCP Options and BOOTP Vendor Extensions) : Option 68 for HA info.

  3. New DHCPv6 Option (1/3) • Introduce two options to for delivery of home network information in visited network • Home Network Identifier (HNId) option • Home Network Information (HNInf) option

  4. New DHCPv6 Option (2/3) • Home Network Identifier (HNId) option • Option-code : OPTION_HNId (TBD) • id-type 0 Local (visited) domain • Network realm • ‘A’ flag A flag to specify whether the client requests a home address or not.

  5. New DHCPv6 Option (3/3) • Home Network Information (HNInf) option • Option-code : OPTION_HNInf (TBD) • info-type 0 Home subnet prefix 1 HA’s complete IPv6 address • HA’s FQDN • IPv6 Home address There can be multiple information

  6. Proposed Procedure (1) Visited network Home network DHCP server • Dynamic HA discovery • HoA is preconfigured Get home subnet prefix HAs • Home registration MN

  7. Proposed Procedure (2) Visited network Home network DNS server DHCP server • DNS resolution • Get HoA & HA’s FQDN HAs • Home registration MN

  8. Proposed Procedure (3) Visited network DHCP server • Get HoA & HA address directly HAs • Home registration MN

  9. Specific Operation Visited network • Search the proper corresponding info. based on HNId *@ kt.co.kr – a::b *@ samsung.com - c::d *@ sk.co.kr - e::f DHCPserver Home network • 1. Send DHCPv6 information-request msg. • DHCP option request option • HNId option with ‘A’=1 • [samsung.com] • 3. Send DHCPv6 reply for CoA • HNInf option with HA address [c::d] & HoA HAs c::d • Home Registration MN

  10. Applications • In integrated bootstrapping scenarios • draft-ietf-mip6-bootstrapping-integrated-dhc-01.txt • Stage-3 CSN Anchored Mobility in WiMAX • 060215-CSN-Anchored-MM-stage-3 • MIP6 enhancement in 3GPP2 • X31-20060522-021

  11. Conclusion • DHCP is an efficient and convenient way to provide home network information since • Widely deployed networks in real networks • Allows an MN to discover not only IP addresses but also various the capabilities & configuration parameters through stateless DHCP • This draft does not suggest bootstrapping solution but delivery mechanism of home network parameters in the access network. • This proposal can be applied for other use such as local HA(MAP) discovery • We hope this proposal is adopted as a WG document.
