2. What is GATE • GATE is an Erasmus Mundus project under the Action 2 coordinated by Johannes Kepler University Linz • Project duration: 2012 – 2016 • Project funding: 2,498.400 € • Supports academic mobility from Asia to Europe at all levels: 103 scholarships for students (Bachelor's, Master's and PhD), post-doc researchers and staff for periods ranging from 1 month (academic staff) to 34 months (full PhD)

GATE Consortium Consists of 13 Asian 7 EU universities • Multidisciplinary consortium providing a unique opportunity to choose programmes according to the needs of the students/researchers/staff • 3 associates partners (Asean-European University Network “ASEA-UNINET”, Eurasia Pacific Uninet, Local branches of the ESN International Erasmus Exchange Student Network)

7. Target Groups for Mobility (1) Nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam… • Target Group 1: … who are registered as students or staff at one of the Partner Universities of the GATE project at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. • Target Group 2: … who are registered at a higher education institution of these countries that is not included in the partnership, or who have obtained a university degree or equivalent from an institution of these countries.

8. Target Groups for Mobility (2) • Target Group 3: Nationals of Lot 10 countries who are in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons. For example:1) having a refugee status or being asylum beneficiary (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or2) it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or3) they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons)

9. Types and Levels of Mobility Mobility from Group A countries (Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Vietnam) must represent at least 30% of the individual mobility covered by the project.

GATE Objectives (1) • Promotion of the Knowledge triangle concept through mobility • Establishment of bilateral or multilateral cooperation, to create a win-win situation for all partners and avoid brain drain • Development of sustainable co-operation between the consortium members • Enhancement of the attractiveness of the EU universities for Asian countries • Contribution to the academic excellence and visibility of Asian universities • Promotion of the concept of Lifelong Learning as a tool for development and social inclusion in Asia

14. GATE Objectives (2) • GATE graduates will be more competitive both on the global and regional markets • Cooperation with international top level universities will be further developed • Reinforcement of educational, cultural, scientific and technological links between EU and Asian countries • Promotion of procedures for common recognition and compatibility of programmes and diplomas by using ECTS and the Diploma Supplement
