  3. Economic Times • The population of Europe increased greatly as technological and agricultural innovations allowed trade to flourish and crop yields to increase.

  4. Religion • Catholics didn’t view the era as dark, they viewed it as a harmonious, productive, religious era. The Dark ages were also the years of vast Muslim conquests. • 1216- Magna Carta is signed • 1382- Bible is translated into English by John Wycliffe

  5. Middle Ages

  6. Religion • During the dark ages & middle ages the only accepted Christian religion was the Catholic religion. • Medieval lives in the middle ages were dominated by the catholic religion

  7. Important Dates • 476 A.D. fall of the Roman Empire • The battle of Hasting & Norman Conquest- Saturday October 14th, 1066 • The Doomsday Book- 1086 • The Hundred years War- 1337 to 1453 • The Black Death- 1348 to 1350 • The Great Schism- 1378

  10. Beliefs • Separated the discipline of medicine from philosophy and religion, believing and proffering that disease was not punishment of the gods but due to environmental factors such as diet and living habit.
