  2. In the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, the author includes passages that help predict how the story will turn out. I predict that Curley will pick a fight with Lennie.One reason I think this is because when Curley first met Lennie, Curley got mad at Lennie as a way to show Lennie who’s boss. George tells Candy that “…Curley better not make no mistake about Lennie. Lennie ain’t handy, but this Curley punk is gonna get hurt if he messes around with Lennie” (26). This shows that although Lennie does not know how to fight, Lennie is strong and not someone to mess with. There is no reason to mention this unless George thinks it will happen. As a reader, we know it will because it is a foreshadow.

Another reason that I think a fight will occur between Curley and Lennie is because of the advice that George gives Lennie after Curley leaves, “Look, Lennie, if you get in any kind of trouble, you remember what I told you to do?” (30). George would not feel the need to remind Lennie of what to do if Lennie gets into trouble unless George feels Lennie will. After seeing how Curley got mad at Lennie, George knows that there will be trouble and he wants to make sure Lennie remembers the plan.The prediction of a fight between Curley and Lennie is clear and will be a turning point in the story.
