What’s the plan? • Fill out your Registration Form • Turn in the WHITE copy to me at the end of session! • Bring home the yellow/pink copies – review with your parent/guardian – and get signature! • Bring back the YELLOW copy to your teacher by Monday, 3/8/10. I will collect them from teachers on Monday afternoon. • Individual problems/concerns – see me in the Counseling Office (fill out appointment sheet) – but you still must complete & turn in the yellow forms by MONDAY (write a note on the yellow copy for me to know you have concern).

Registration Form – Part I First thing’s First: • Write the basics on the form: • Name, Student ID #, your CELL phone number(s) • Core Classes on TOP • Most will be in American Lit, Math III, Chemistry or Physics or Biology, and US History • Most will be recommended for the same level courses you are enrolled in now (i.e. Regular = Regular, Honors to Honors, AP to AP) • “Petition for Course Upgrade” is an option with parent/guardian signature (see me for more info)

Registration Form – Part II Second Thingy: • How to choose ELECTIVES???? • Review items in your Registration Folder and pay attention to Mr. Dittmar’s presentation! • You need to Select 8 electives (or you may be placed in something you do not want!) • NO Schedule changes will be provided for electives next year!!! • Prioritize! Be sure to RANK your selections to the LEFT side of the course number/title All info is available on our Registrar’s Website

  5. Registration - Part II – Choices What Electives???(look in your folder!!!) • Course Descriptions: • Academic Electives • CTAE Electives • Career Academy Electives • WBL & Dual Enrollment

  6. Electives Academic Electives – Need to Know: • Academic Challenge! Push yourself ! • AP Courses – many will be A/B schedule (so pick in pairs) – notes about AP Physics (Mech/Elect) and AP Calculus (AB/BC)! • Check out the new Science Electives (Zoology, Astronomy, Forensic Science, Biology II / AP Bio, etc.) • Classes must have at least 14 students to make! • The plan is for NO ‘skinnies’ , zero, or 5th

Electives - continued CTAE Electives – Need to Know: • Career Clusters: • Government/Public Safety • Agriculture • Business & Computer Science • Marketing, Sales, and Services • Family and Consumer Science • Education • Childcare • Golden Isles Career Academy – MORE Opportunities than ever!!! – Real life experience and great advantages for college!

Electives – Dual Enrollment • 2) Dual Enrollment – HS & College Technical Credit! • ATC at GICA – HVAC, Culinary Arts, Law Enforcement, Cosmetology • Must pay $15 application fee for ATC & take the COMPASS or ASSET exam before next school year (exams in April) • 3) Joint Enrollment – college courses at night or weekends 1) ACCEL – college credit & HS credit • HOPE Scholarship applies! = total of 127 credits • Need to contact prospective colleges to ensure they will accept credits (especially if private or out-of-state) • Remember : You don’t get a second chance to start your college transcript!

Electives - continued Work-Based Learning (WBL)– Need to Know: • Youth Apprenticeship: (Senetra Haywood @ GICA) • If you think you know what you want to do when you grow up, this is a great opportunity to get some practice in the real world! • Requires a long-term commitment = 2,000 hours • Marketing Co-op: (Brian Roberson @ GICA) • Must be concurrently enrolled in Marketing Principles course at GICA

  11. Registration - Part III • Sign the bottom and put your email address! (you can put your phone text address! – i.e. 9125552555@message.alltel.com)

  12. Let’s Talk about it… Have you considered being an Early Grad? • What are the benefits of Early Graduation? • No more HS classes!, No more HS rules!, No more... HS memories • What are the benefits of Finishing in Four? • AP Courses – earn college credit FREE of tuition cost! • CTAE Courses = FREE education in a Career! Stand out among college applicants! • WBL – get paid experience, while in school and network yourself in the industry! • What about Sports, Music, Art, Theater, Clubs, etc….

Transcript Review How are you doing with credits??? • Most Sophomores should have at least 10 credits by now (6 from last year + 4 from Fall semester) • Ensure that you are on Track! • Promotion to Junior Standing = 11 Total Credits • 2 credits = ELA • 2 credits = Math • 2 credits = Science • 2 credits = Social Science • 3 credits = Electives (1 should be Health/PF & at least 1 should be foreign language for college bound students)
