Our goal is to create a user-friendly website for the Yellow Team Dance Ensemble that can be easily updated and maintained. We conducted a competitive analysis of various dance websites to identify strengths and weaknesses, focusing on navigation, content richness, and integration of social media links. We found that sites with simpler designs often performed better. We'll evaluate options between a Content Management System (CMS) versus PHP/HTML for greater control, while also implementing e-commerce functions for donations and performance ticket sales.

Goals • Create a website that can be easily updated and maintained • Database tools for e-commerce functions
Competitive Analysis • Web sites visited: • http://www.gwirtzmandance.org/ • http://markmorrisdancegroup.org/ • http://www.danceplace.org/ • http://danceexchange.org/ • http://www.thedanceco.org/index.html • http://www.ptdc.org/ • http://www.kankouran.org/cms/ • http://www.nainichen.org/ • http://www.contradictiondance.com/ • http://www.washingtonballet.org/default.htm • http://www.thedanceco.com/
Competitive Analsysis - What We Learned • Lacked clear navigation (i.e. no breadcrumbs, had to drill down to find information, etc) • More content, slower the site speed • Different methods for donations • Social media links
Key Points We Liked • Best site performance did not have a lot of media • Floating drop-downs allowed the user to find information quickly • Social networking integration (Facebook and Twitter)
Goal: Create a website that can be easily updated and maintained • CMS vs PHP/HTML Debate • + PHP/HTML - greater control over the website and integration with database (good for reporting) • + PHP/HTML - cheaper and flexible • +CMS - not technical
Goal 2: Database tools for e-commerce functions • Donations • Performance Tickets
