    2. Everything you need to know! • The FIFA World Cup 2014 will be the 20th FIFA World Cup, an international football tournament that is scheduled to take place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014.  • This is the second time that Brazil will host the competition. Only Mexico, Italy, France and Germany have hosted the World Cup twice before.

    3. Everything you need to know! • It is the first World Cup to be held in South America since the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. • It will also be the first FIFA World Cup to use goal-line technology.

    4. Brazil • Brazil is the world’s 5th largest country, both by geographical area and population, and is the largest country in South America. • The official language of Brazil is Portuguese.

Biodiversity • Brazil is considered to have the greatest biodiversity of any country on the planet. • It has the most known species of plants (55,000), freshwater fish (3,000) and mammals (over 689). • It also ranks third on the list of countries with the most number of bird species (1,832) and second with the most reptile species (744).

    6. Tourism • Brazil is an excellent tourist destination and is one of the most visited countries in Latin America. • Among the popular destinations are the Amazon rainforest, Iguazu waterfalls, beaches at Rio de Janeiro and Christ the Redeemer.

Football in Brazil • Football occupies a very special place in the hearts of people in Brazil. • Brazilian football boasts of players like Leonidas, Garrincha, Didi, Vava, Zagallo, Tostão, Zico, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto, Socrates, Bebeto, Romario, Cafu, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos to name a few!

    9. Football in Brazil • Brazil is the most successful national football team in the history of the FIFA World Cup, winning the tournament in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. • Brazil is the only national team to have played in every World Cup.

    10. Qualified Teams • A total of 32 teams have qualified for the World Cup. Brazil, being the host country gained automatic selection. • The other 31 teams to qualify come from Asia, North America, Africa, South America and Europe.

Mascots • Ever since the 1966 Football World Cup in England, each World Cup has had its own mascot.   • The mascots are designed in such a way that they represent any particular feature of the host country (which may include costumes, flora, fauna etc.). • Mascots have been popular symbols of every World Cup and people have loved them and millions of people have bought copies of them.

    15. 2014 Mascot • Fuleco the Armadillo is the official mascot of the FIFA World Cup 2014. • Fuleco comes from the Portuguese words “Futebol” (football) and “Ecologia” (ecology) and it represents the way in which the FIFA World Cup can combine the two to encourage people to behave in an environmentally friendly way.
