College of Sciences Inclusive Strategic Planning Building a future based on the Pillars of Excellence and Efficiency Needs • Cost control • Students (e.g., STEM pipeline, teaching innovation, advising, curriculum) • Research (e.g., volume and value, strategic foci, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary) • Community (e.g., more locally and globally engaged, tied to learning) Approach (bottom up) • Departments create 5 year, one page business plans annually • ° Mission, Vision, Objectives, Strategies, Plans (with specific benchmarks) • ° Build on strengths, address weaknesses, take advantage of opportunities, cut costs • College Advisory Board critiques plans • Revised plans incorporated into College-Wide plan with Advisory Board help • ° Data driven • ° Distinguish cross-cutting priorities • ° Identify foci for Advisory Board attention
