The Rhetorical Situation • Exigency= The need to speak (write/communicate) • Agency= The ability/opportunity/skill confidence to communicate • Analysis= Knowledge about and complex understanding of the issue/problem/question/debate/plan. • Audience= Knowledge about the potential “listeners” in the rhetorical situation, your goals for them, their context. • Invention= Knowledge/insight/inspiration etc. that you can contribute. Your specific effort to act within, or in response to the rhetorical situation, and to have an effect.

Digital Writing • Modes of inscription: How signs are recorded on a medium • Medium: on what are they recorded and transmitted • Storage: In what form is the information stored (how, where, for how long) • Delivery/transmission: How does it get to potential readers • Manifestation: what are the properties of the conceptual object • Citation: Mechanisms: New Media and the Forensic Imagination.
