  19. Crafting Sustainable Culture Cuts across all silos Procurement has a major role - from products we purchase (source & quality) to the price we pay Sustainable products are often higher quality, have more longevity and save money in the long run How do we get the word out? Has become a function of best practices within the facilities management group Research One: 600k Biomedical Research Facility, EUI of 450 (kBtu/sf) Energy conservation measures have begun Strategic sourcing will decrease total project costs and decrease payback period Once completed, projects will save 15% of total campus energy use and cut 10% of greenhouse gas emissions

  20. New Construction Three LEED Buildings in design or construction phases School of Pharmacy Health & Wellness Center Business School LEED is driving sustainable purchasing in these new buildings and educating university faculty, staff and students of the benefits of sustainable products and purchasing

  21. Campus Efforts Moe Tabrizi Director, Energy Conservation University of Colorado at Boulder

  22. Financing and installing solar PV on campus buildings MFT 1/10

  23. Recently installed PV: 472 panels, 140,000 kWh/year, enough energy to power 20 regular-sized homes MFT 1/10

  24. Coors Events Center: 210 panels, 44 kW, 61,600 kwh/yearCoors uses approximately 1 million kwh/year, which means the PV panels provide 6% of the energy for the building MFT 1/10

  25. Housing Maintenance Center:210 panels, 44 kW, 61,600 kwh/yearPV panels provide 18% of the energy for the building MFT 1/10

  26. Wolf Law:52 panels, 11 kW, 15,400 kwh/year MFT 1/10

  27. Mountain Research Station 20 kw arrays provide remote renewable power for CU climate science research along continental divide west of Boulder. Student funded, Xcel rebates, etc Mountain Research Station gets snowed in and experiences some power losses in heavy snow loads. PV provides remote renewable supplies.

  28. Structured to take advantage of Xcel process, Amendment 37, Tax credit, & Accelerated depreciation charges RESIDENTIAL MIDSIZE LARGE SCALE • <10kw 10kw-100kw >100kw Partnership with 3rd party venture capitalist in need of tax credits MFT 1/10

  29.
