  3. Review • Factor the following by taking out the GCF:

  4. Your Turn! Pull out a half sheet of paper and answer the following problems. We will be turning these in. 

Factor By Grouping (4 terms) • Step 1: See is there is a GCF in ALL the terms. • If there is, then take him out and write on the outside of brackets. • Step 2: Pair up your terms using parenthesis. • Step 3: Find the GCF of each pair and factor them out. • Step 4: Check that the remaining factors are the same. • Step 5: Factor the remaining ones out. • Stick them in their own set of parenthesis, and whatever is remaining in the other set. • Step 6: Check your answer.

Factor by the Box Method • Step 1: See is there is a GCF in ALL the terms. • If there is, then take him out and write on the outside of brackets. • Step 2: Plug your 4 terms into “the box”. • Step 3: Look at each column. Decide what the GCF is of each and write it on the top. • Step 4: Look at each row. Decide what the GCF is of each and write it on the left. • Step 5: Write the factors in parenthesis. • Step 6: Check your answer
