  2. Impetigo • Definition: superficial infection of the epidermis • Causative agent: S. aureus and S. pyogenes • Types: Bullous and Non-bullous • Predisposing factors • Uncleanliness • Age • Climate

  8. Treatment of Impetigo • Topical antiseptics • Fusidic acid • Systemic antibiotics • Penicillins or 1st generation cephalosporins

  9. Ecthyma • Definition: Ulcerative pyoderma of the skin extending into the dermis • Causative agent: S. aureus and Group A Strep • Site of predilection: shins or dorsal of feet • Predisposing factor: • Uncleanliness • Previous trauma to skin • IV drug use

  12. Treatment of ecthyma • Cleansing with soap and water • Application of Mupirocin or Bacitracin ointment twice a day • Oral Dicloxacillin or first-generation Cephalosporin • Proper hygiene and nutrition
