  3. Calendar Year • The SMP follows the calendar year. • ID numbers start with year they have been registered in

  4. SMP Levels • Pick a level for your project and stick with it • Anticipate your needs • A project gets registered once and follows the requirements of that level at all times

  5. Notification/Cancellation • Burn Boss or someone else familiar with project should do the notification • Share information with others in the office • Keep burn file up to date so others in office can retrieve information • Train office/admin staff to help with notification/cancellation

  6. Notification • Remember the 10am one business day prior deadline

  7. Notification • Notify for up to 7 consecutive days – NOT 7 random days

  8. Alternatives to Burning • Why you are not burning

  9. Waiver • Keep a copy of the individual or statewide waiver that you are using in the burn folder and brief others involved with the project on the use of the waiver • Fax/email in daily waiver requirements

  10. Wildfire • Follow the ICS-209 guidelines posted on the SW Fire Operations website for supplemental information needed for smoke management • Brief resources from outside the SW on this • If you are waiting to declare a fire out send an email or phone with information

  11. Wildfire Use • Notify and register once fire reaches 10 acres • Notify daily with fire’s progress until it reaches 100 acres

  12. Tracking • Send in a tracking form for each ID number whether you were able to burn or not • One tracking form per burn • Due by the end of the calendar year

  13. Contacting Smoke Management • Address all correspondence to Smoke Management • Use the smoke phone line • 505-955-8038

  14. Using the On-line Forms • If you get an error message you don’t understand – please call • Entering data into a “live” database
