  1. RESEARCH

  2. SEARCH ENGINES • MYTH • SEARCH ENGINES LISTS THE RESULTS OF A SEARCH BASED ON HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE. • FACT • THE FIRST RESULTS FROM A SEARCH ARE COMPANIES THAT PAID TO BE LISTED FIRST. • THE SEARCH ENGINE THEN LOOKS AT “TITLES OF PAGES” FOR THE WORDS BEING SEARCHED. • THE SEARCH ENGINE THEN LISTS THE RESULTS THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS FREQUENTLY. I can’t find it!

  3. CAN I TRUST IT? • FACT • ANYONE CAN HAVE A WEBSITE • THE LIBRARY KEEPS UP-TO-DATE PRINTED MATERIALS • URL DOMAINS TELL WHAT SORT OF ORGANIZATION CREATED THE WEB SITE • MYTH • EVERYTHING ON THE WEB IS TRUE • THE WEB IS THE ONLY PLACE I CAN FIND UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION • THE URL ADDRESS DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING

  4. These sound good!! • THERE ARE FIVE GENERAL URL DOMAIN NAMES (THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE NOT USED FREQUENTLY) EDUCATION WEBSITES.EDU .K12FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WEBSITES .GOV .MIL • (WATCH OUT FOR TILDE ˜)

  5. I better double check it. • NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS .ORG (THESE ARE OFTEN GEARED TOWARD INFLUENCING OPINIONS) • INTERNET NETWORKS .NET • COMMERCIAL SITES .COM • SOME MAY BE REPUTABLE SUCH AS {NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC.COM} • OTHERS MAY CONTAIN INCORRECT INFORMATION. (MAY BE BIASED)

  6. SPLILLING & Gramatacelerors I don’t know. I thought he spelled his name “Martein” MartianL King wus born in 1973. he marched down the parad in September of 1989 to washington. The crowd surounded him as they made they’re way to the Capital.

  7. SPONSOR OF WEB PAGE Valuable information can be found about web sites in the “About Us” section. This shows sponsors relationships to others. (EX. Time Warner’s information gives the relationship of the company to other companies such as AOL, Turner, and HBO.) This could establish bias material on the web site.

  8. Author of the information given on the web page I read the information off of 4 people’s blogs and I knew 3 of them! • The information should be right. I paid $35.00 for the essay. • The web site belongs to some of the business places around here so it must be right. • There was no author.

  9. LAST UPDATE OF THE WEB PAGE This could be important!! • Very important when researching information on: • Technology information • Medical information • Scientific information • Industrial information • Current news

  10. TENNESSEE ELECTRONIC LIBRARY • www.tntel.info • Can access the database anytime and anywhere. • -magazine articles • Newspapers • Reference books • multimedia

  11. There is just too much. I better do a “PHRASE SEARCH” BENEFIT BY PLACING YOUR PHRASE INSIDE QUOTATION MARKS THE SEARCH ENGINE LOOKS FOR THE EXACT PHRASE. THIS ALSO REDUCES THE NUMBER OF RESPONSES YOU RECEIVE. PROBLEM SPELLING HAS TO BE CORRECT IN EVERY WORD MAY NOT GIVE A SITE THAT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL

  12. Plagiarism/tnla.org Well, I just used some of it, so that doesn’t count AND Everybody cuts and pastes all the time AND I’ll change a few of the words and my teacher will never know the difference AND Nobody really cares if you do this or not.
