  1. SiPM production and tests MEPHI&PULSAR 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  2. Main SiPM batch for Hadron Calorimeter Prototype was produced in February 2005 SiPM parameters: • 1156 pixels 1x1mm2 • Quenching resistors value 5÷10 Mohm • Operational voltage ~40 V • Total amount of SiPMs ~ 10000 pc 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  3. Typical distribution of resistors value for wafer 114 test resistors • Quenching resistors value of each wafer were measured by semiautomatic probe FWHM~0.25 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  4. Wafer map • ~4000 SiPMs were tested with LED pulses directly on uncut wafers 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  5. Several SiPMs were tested at MEPHI All parameters are OK 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  6. 70 pc were transferred to ITEP and tested by ITEP people (see E.Tarkovsky talk) • 3 pc were transferred to A.Karakash and tested with ASIC (usual setup) signal noise Conclusion – we have enough SiPMs for first DESY order 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  7. Support plates Polycor plate Ceramic plate Were produced ~1200 pc ceramic plates with tolerances 4.98÷5.02 mm and under production now Obtained first pc of the polycor plates More simple cutting and SiPM assembling procedures than for ceramic 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  8. SiPM-WLS-tile system Dust or small scintillator parts SiPM surface protection 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  9. SiPMs with surface protection KO-08 russian industrial compaund (varnish)for water protection and for electrical insulation Thickness ~50 micron 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  10. Calibrated SiPM with open surface SiPMs with KO-08 after 2 years of storage KO-08 long term stability Stability is OK 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  11. KO-08 tests with SiPM-tile assembly and -source MEPHI tested protected and unprotected SiPMs according to light yield/mip Appr. 10% of light decreasing 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  12. Long SiPM pulses problem High dark current Deterioration of the single pixel resolution For first cassette – 7 SiPMs with long pulses We don’t understand now the reason for long SiPM pulses 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  13. The special setup developed at MEPHI for scanning of the SiPM. LED, optical fiber, step 100 micron Localization of the problem region and investigation under microscope Our proposal – to use the first cassette for long term stability test of the SiPMs! 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  14. PRODUCTION RATE 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY

  15. Conclusions • 5000 will be transferred to ITEP in 2 months • SiPMs will be with protective coating (KO-08 or BC-600) • Long term stability tests should be started as soon as possible (first cassette) 28.04.05 HCAL main meeting DESY
