  1. Muon Tracker Work for Shutdown 2012 DC mtg, May 9, 2012 - Mike Leitch • Station-1 South re-capacitation and termination • Station-2 South (upstream) termination • Station-2 North Oct-2 HV repairs • Station-3 termination clamps • muTrig FEE repairs station-1 terminators vacuum lifting fixture view when sta-1 removed (south) Muon Tracker

  2. Remove station-1 South chambers and solder capacitors Station-1 & Station-2 Muon Tracker

  3. MuTr Work in the RPC Factory Area • Soldering on new capacitors to station-1 chambers, adding plug-on terminators, & testing at HV • Cleaning of pads with scraping tools and occasionally with soldering iron and solder wick (most are pretty clean already) – no solvents needed • Use soldering irons and small amounts of solder to put capacitors onto existing pads • use “smoke eater” aspiration unit while soldering • Add plug-on terminators at existing connectors on chamber edges • Flow Ar/CO2/CF4 gas (non-flammable) for HV testing at full (< 2000V) voltage • Once HV is verified ok; paint on conformal coating with brush over capacitors and pads (Print Kote, toluene based) – existing small bottles should be more than enough for this job • No readout tests are needed until chambers/FEE are reinstalled at 1008 • Workers to read RPC Factory Work Plan and sign before starting work before after Muon Tracker

  4. Terminators ready - thanks to Steve Boose (should have enough of these; need to double check) Station-1 Station-2 Muon Tracker

  5. North Sta-2 Oct-2 HV Repairs • 5/12 HV channels in North Sta-2 Oct-2 bad • located on interior of magnet at top • pull dry air minifold • investigate why these channels bad • potentially remove and replace capacitors • or isolate broken wires and disconnect from HV to recover other wires in same HV channel • replace dry air manifold • Also check HV clamp-terminators in North Sta-3 (3 HV channels are disabled); and in South View from IR Muon Tracker

  6. South Station-2 Location of electronics to be serviced West MuTrig-FEE boards in St-2 need to be replaced by spares Muon Tracker No boards in station-3 need to be served as of today.

  7. Build Platform and Install Clamps Station-3 Muon Tracker

  8. Clamp-on Terminator Installation on North & South Station-3 • Lower clamp-on terminators already installed for both north and south sta-3 (bottom 4 octants) • with new scaffolding that reaches all of sta-3; install remaining (upper) clamp-on terminators (~300) Muon Tracker

  9. Station-3 Clamp Install Installed Region (2011) Muon Tracker

  10. Clamp Assembly@ RIKEN • Total 300 Clamps to be assembled • Completed ¾ by now • Re-soldering GND cables in progress Complete Assembly – end of June Shipping to BNL – July Install – Late August Muon Tracker

  11. Soldering Thank you to : Sachi Ozaki, Tomomi Sakuta, ShuntaroSaiba, TakeruIguri, Sanghwa Muon Tracker

  12. Installation (Aug ~ Sept) Dry Air Manifold Muon Tracker

  13. IR Humidity 39% • Not drastically high yet • Still need to pay close attention 15% 3/1 3/31 39% 15% 5/21 4/1 Muon Tracker

  14. Clamp Dark Current Performance No obvious current increase hasn’t seen yet (except for one channel in Octant8) Plot by Sanghwa clamp pp CuAu clamp clamp clamp Muon Tracker

  15. Clamp Maintenance in August Plot by Sanghwa • A few Installed clamps need to be reviewed. clamp clamp clamp clamp disabled Muon Tracker

  16. Suspect Dry air tube joint The joints broke sometimes during installation. Needs to be checked. Muon Tracker

  17. Rough Schedule; Manpower to be Determined Sanghwa, Inseok (Seoul) Takeru (Rikkyo) + 1 student from Kyoto? Muon Tracker

  18. Summary • MuTr+ MuTrig-FEE Maintenance in Summer • Station-1 : South Chamber to be removed for soldering • Station-2 : Mount Anode terminators, major HV recovery in North Oct.2 • Station-3 : Clamp Installation to top half Octants in both South and North • Clamp assembly to be completed by the end of June Muon Tracker

  19. North Station-3 Octant-4 MuTrig Electronics boards need to be replaced by spare Noise inspection North St-3 Oct-3 East No boards in station-2 need to be served as of today. Muon Tracker
