Purposes & Activities of Labyrinths of Hope Society • To educate and inform the public of the benefits of Labyrinths in the community. • To provide supporting activities and facilities to members and non-members for the • purposes of self-help and self-care, building capacity at a localized level on a number of fronts. • To aid and nurture societies to grieve, to heal to restore and reconnect their social and spiritual connections (both internally/individually and amongst the larger surrounding community. • Fundraising activities to support the development of the organizations programming and in • the delivery of specific services, conducted in close collaboration with the municipal • government, business community and related philanthropic organizations. building communities one labyrinth at a time

Development of Labyrinth • space 7,500 sq ft circumference, 100 ft diameter • excavation to 2 ft in depth • screener separation of stones/debris from soil • surveyor to layout pathway of the labyrinth • pathways 3 feet wheelchair access • pathways made of stones and asphalt • pathways border edged by set stones • garden beds filled with fertilizer, worm castings, top soil • weed barrier paper to decrease weeding • watering maintenance through City of Abbotsford • Building communities one labyrinth at a time

Construction of Labyrinth • Fencing by Super Save (15 days) • Excavation up to 2 to 3 days • 2 days surveying complete layout of labyrinth • 2 approx. days for construction of pathways • 2 approx. days for placing hedging round flower beds • up to 3 days Abbotsford firefighters manpower • Open to donation benches by labyrinth (optional) • Donated plaques along the pathways (optional) • Grant money – plant purchase building communities one labyrinth at a time

  5. Maintenance of Labyrinth • Plant flowers in May 2012 • Dr. Aimee Taylor, Horticulturist Therapist • List of plants/flower submitted to City Planners • Planting to be mainly don through LOHS work crew • On-going labyrinth supervision by a local resident • Yearly up-keep of the garden beds by LOHS • Yearly maintenance responsibility of LOHS • On-going clean up of labyrinth grounds volunteers • building communities one labyrinth at a time

Labyrinth Space exists for: • Caregivers and loved ones to victims of primary trauma • Those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder • Others who have absorbed the emotions of traumatized patients • People grieving the illness or loss of a loved one • People whose health is deteriorating and who need to renew their courage and healing • People facing the need for hospice care who are looking for a beneficial alternative • Individuals who network with support groups • Holistic healers of primary & secondary victims building communities one labyrinth at a time
