  4. Domain names are unique. Examples of domain names witc.edu cnn.com wintersystems.com superiorrotary.org Cost depending where you register the domain $7-$20 / year
  5. The main feature of domain registration is the ability to set a name server to your domain name The name server points to where your website is located/hosted
  6. Name Servers are like website phone directories. They tell computers where a website is located on the internet. wintersystems.com has a IP address of 74.208.65.125 Its much easier to remember wintersystems.com then a string of numbers. This is the purpose of name servers.

  8. Web hosting is the space on a server most often in a datacenter that your website files are located on.
  9. Shared Hosting $3.49-$9.99 / Month (best prices often require annual or even payment for 2 years up front) Located on a server with a several hundred or even several thousand other web sites. Work ok for most businesses however have a number of disadvantages. Can be very slow depending on the number of sites and or if some sites have very high traffic. Server resources are shared such as processor and memory. Can be more of a target to hacking attempts. A hacker that compromises the server might have access to a greater number of sites. A greater chance for the server to be blacklisted if any one site is used for spamming (sending unwanted emails)
  10. VPS (Virtual Private Server) Hosting Start between $19 - $29 / month Websites have part of a server processor and memory “dedicated” to their use. Result is better performance. Dedicated Server and Cloud Hosting Start around $50 /month often cost over $100 or more per month. Used for very large high traffic sites and by web professionals that then use them for their clients as a “premium shared” environment.
