  1. Generation Debt Castro, AileenEnglish 130117482Spring 2010Professor Horn 5:30p.m. - 7p.m. MW

  2. Why is this important to me? As a college student, Generation Debt … is important to me because it discusses the high cost of higher education and the troubles that a college student confronts. It made me contemplate my generation, and what we will face in the future.

  3. What is your response to it? There is an increase of debt in our generation compared with the previous generation. There is a staggering cost of a college education, and today’s youth faces limited options. Recent graduates need to buy more technology like laptop computers and cell phones; those are items that the previous generation didn’t have or need. I agree!

  4. What is the author saying? The author explores the financial problems of college grads, and those who entered the workforce with or without a degree. She makes some good points as to why America’s youth are having a hard time financially. High taxes Cost of college Bad-decision making Credit card debt and student loans Major economic changes She discusses the plight of our youth and gives suggestions on how we must overcome financial obstacles in order to succeed. Use common sense! - Get a degree you can actually use. - Go to an affordable college. Save money. Don’t live off credit cards.

  5. What did I say in my book report? • There are other options! • Vocational Education programs • Community college • Saving money for school • Financial problems from all sides • More student loans than grants • High housing prices • Retirement of Baby Boomers • Love, women and independence • Women still making less money than men • Many living paycheck to paycheck • People less confident about investing
