  1. “Tis a spot, the best adopted of any to be seen, for the purpose of living.”1 ~A Southwest Michigan French Official, 1718~ Today, residents and visitors alike enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of Southwest Michigan’s 42 miles of acclaimed Lake Michigan shoreline. Dubbed as the “Riviera of the Midwest”, located only 90 minutes from Chicago, just three hours from Detroit and Indianapolis, you will find what many have discovered for centuries, one of the finest stretches of water, beaches, and agricultural land known in the entire nation. Popular early 19th century American writer, James Fenimore Cooper, (best known for his novel, Last of the Mohicans), once wrote that Berrien County was “A region that almost merits the lofty appellation of the Garden of America.”2, and we couldn’t agree with him more! Southwest Michigan is a true American treasure. Our area is home to Michigan’s most romantic city, one of the world’s most renowned beaches and appliance mogul, Whirlpool World Headquarters. Set against the backdrop of a majestic Lake Michigan bluff overlooking Lake Michigan’s highly-praised Silver Beach and the splendid St. Joseph River, sits the quaint City of St. Joseph, lined with charming brick streets, unique attractions, delightful shops, enticing cafes, appealing art, diverse music and welcoming people. Southwest Michigan has derived a reputation for its soul-inspiring landscapes, countless four-season recreational activities, fun-filled festivals, championship golf courses, exceptional wineries, quality health care, excellence in education and a strong economic diversity of agriculture, tourism, service and industry. Comfortably cosmopolitan, our area provides residents and visitors alike the many benefits of ’big city living’ with a rare and precious ‘yesteryear-like’ charm. From our public art displays in St. Joseph to the Benton Harbor Arts District, from our symphony orchestra to our farmer’s markets, from our world-renowned beaches to our award winning golf courses, wineries, schools and community colleges, from our businesses to our neighborhoods, Southwest Michigan is truly an American treasure, an ‘appellation of the Garden of America’, and we welcome you to our spot of Michigan’s Great Southwest, ’the best adopted of any to be seen, for the purpose of living.’ 1-2 Historical quotes and area information provided by the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce. The history of Berrien County is available to view in its entirety at www.cornerstonechamber.com/pdfs/BerrienCountyProfile.pdf. Written By Julie J. Zych (cc)

  2. "It looks pretty good to me; and others are sure to follow." ~One of the Berrien County's first settlers, John Harner, 1834, ~ The FineLiving Channelreferred to St. Joseph as “The Riviera of the Midwest”. MoneyMagazinenamed St. Joseph one of "6 terrific towns on the water.” Delta Airlines picked St. Joseph’s Silver Beach as one of the “World’s top Beaches.” Silver Beach was selected as number two while other destinations include Santa Monica, California; Nice, France; Railay Krabi, Thailand; Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. CNN Money.com - "One of the Best Places to Retire". The ParentsMagazinelisted St. Joseph’s Silver Beach as a “Top 10 Best Family Beach.” The Golf Digest Magazine named Southwest Michigan “A top 20 in the Best in America Community for Golf.” Shore Magazine named St. Joseph “The Best of Downtown.” Money Magazine named St. Joseph “A Top 10 Community for Shortest Commutes in America.” The DetroitFree Press called St. Joseph the “Most Romantic City in Michigan." 3. Uncover and Discover Deeply Rich and Infinite Space We all bring a story into nearly every moment. By doing this, it affects how we experience that moment. How we essentially respond to life. The way we choose to live it. Innately, we are all uncovering and discovering every eternal and true moment. At Palazzo Sul Lago, (Palaces on the Lake), our story is grander than you may have ever imagined. Resting along the majestic Southwest Michigan Lakeshore, just moments from Michigan’s most romantic city, charming downtown St. Joseph, and about 90 minutes from Chicago, Palazzo Sul Lago is on 8.5 stately acres with 500+/- feet of exclusive Lake Michigan sandy beach frontage. Environmental award winning developers/builders, TTM Development Group, were well aware of Palazzo Sul Lago’s natural beauty and used Mother Nature as their lead designer to create a private, Tuscan-inspired, waterfront community that is deeply rich in infinite space, brilliant vistas and Lake Michigan magnificence. This premier, gated and professionally landscaped development offers only fourteen, non-erosion zone, well-appointed parcels. Each uniquely platted building site features unhindered west water views, association lake and beach access, and convenient city amenities. To experience Lake Michigan’s, ever-present, beautiful blue waters and captivating sunsets, a special vision easement was recorded not allowing any vertical construction in areas which would affect homeowner’s lake views. The lake and beach association access is a breeze with Palazzo Sul Lago’s revolutionary terraced concrete retaining walls and paved lane. This not only allows easy waterfront access, but you can literally take a golf cart down to the water’s edge. Resting just above the picturesque lake, the inviting pool and cabana is ingeniously built into the existing bluff offering eternal, never-ending, sensational Lake Michigan views. Our story at Palazzo Sul Lago, (Palaces on the Lake), begins and ends with just one true moment, with just one focus in mind: to offer the very best of what waterfront living can be. Yes, we all bring a story into nearly every moment. Thank you for spending a few of your moments with Palazzo Sul Lago (Palaces on the Lake), for allowing us to uncover our story; we look forward to hearing from you and discovering yours. 6. Palazzo Sul Lago (Palaces on the Lake) A Moment to Experience… A Lifetime of Stories Thinking Outside of The Box… A Moment of Brilliance 120 foot bluffs are common in this region. This makes it difficult to reach the lake and sandy beach without approx. 170 stairs, or more importantly controlling the lake erosion. At Palazzo Sul Lago, (Palaces on the Lake) award winning environmental developers / builders, TTM Development Group, jumped right out of the box to overcome these issues. The site went from a high-risk erosion status with the Michigan DEQ back to normal. This challenge was successfully achieved by placing a series of concrete switch back ramps and structural concrete panel retaining walls to make Lake access a breeze. The revolutionary terraced concrete retaining walls and paved lane not only allows easy lake access, but you can literally take a golf cart down to the water. In addition, the 15 foot wide ramp permits the township’s life safety equipment to access the beach in case of an emergency.
