  1. Internal Assessment (Portfolio) Changes 2014! New Name: “Exploration” You choose the topic Investigate something related to math interesting to you. Only 1 required for the diploma.

Group 5 (Mathematics) AIMS (Focus) • Apply and transfer skills to alternative situations, to other areas of knowledge and to future developments • Appreciate how developments in technology and mathematics have influenced each other. • Appreciate the moral, social and ethical implications arising from the work of mathematicians and the applications of mathematics.

Group 5 (Mathematics) AIMS • Appreciate the international dimension in mathematics through an awareness of the universality of mathematics and its multicultural and historical perspectives. • Appreciate the contribution of mathematics to other disciplines, and as a particular “area of knowledge” in the TOK course.

  7. Internal Assessment Criteria • Criterion A – Communication (4 Points) • Criterion B – Mathematical Presentation (3 Points) • Criterion C – Personal Engagement (4 Points) • Criterion D – Reflection (3 Points) • Criterion E – Mathematics (6 Points) • Total Points Possible – 20 Points

General Guidelines • Work individually – Can use same stimuli but must have different area of focus. • Recommended length 6-12 pages • Work to be completed over a 2 year period. • Junior year – a topic and preliminary research should be completed. • Senior year – a rough draft turned in 1st quarter and a final draft/presentation completed by early 3rd quarter. • Presentation will be reviewed by a math teacher committee during a set timeframe within your testing year.

Things to do this year!! • Choose a topic! • Create a mind map for your topic • Choose your top 2 choices based on your mind map. • Turn in your mind map and top 2 choices to your math teacher by February 28, 2013 • Pick your final topic and choose a title! • Turn in your final topic and your title to your math teacher on April 19, 2013. Type on a separate sheet of paper. Include your name, math teacher, final topic, the title of your project, and a brief summary of the focus of your project.
