  4. Using a Dictionary • Words are in ABC order. • Tells how to say each word and its meanings. • Guide words/entry words • Use alphabet • Look up: • Use High-Frequency words-all, around, could, many, more, nearly, put, some, there

  5. Determine Author’s Purpose The author’s purpose is the author’s reason for writing. It may be to inform, to entertain, or the persuade. • p. 24 in You Can Count on Me • inform • p. 25, What is the author’s purpose?
