Facts about the call • •Goal: • To promote the development of new, innovative and sustainable forms of wind energy and improve the integration of wind power. • To enhance the development of Nordic R&D institutions and business within the wind energy field • Contribute to promoting the Nordic countries in a global context. • •Research topics: grid aspects, power and energy aspects, energy market aspects, operation and maintenance and cold climate and offshore wind power. • •Instrument: user driven research projects

  3. Application process • •First application phase: • Call launched 15. October 2009 • Deadline: 15. December 2009 • Number of applications: 14 • Quality: Good quality, variation of thematic focus, balance of geography. • •Second application phase: • Evaluation meeting February 3. 2010 • 6 projects invited to phase 2 • Deadline: 15. mars 2010 • Expert evaluation meeting 15. April • PC decision meeting 27. April • Number of applicants: 5 • Quality: Very good quality, and good balance of partners

  4. Decission •Final Projects: • Improved forecast of wind, waves and icing (ICEWIND)Project leader: Risø DTU, Denmark. Partner countries: Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Founded by MNOK : 12,34 • DC grids for integration of large scale wind power (OffshoreDC)Project leader: Risø DTU – Technical University of Denmark, Denmark. Partner countries: Finland, Norway and Sweden. Founded by MNOK : 11,05 • Optimal spinning reserve of power systems considering forecasting error of load and wind power generation under market environment (OSRNordic)Project leader: Aalborg University, Denmark. Partner countries: Iceland og Sweden. Founded by MNOK : 3,75 Total foundation MNOK: NOK 27 The total budget of the projects: NOK 45 million

EU & Industry • •Industry participation in the projects was encouraged, and 40 % external contribution requested • •Nordic Power Research Network participated in the first part of the call • •Representatives from the industry will be invited to yearly conferences to spread the results from the projects
