Asked question from the users on regular basis, and the answers to these questions. FAQ Legacy Family Tree Software:- 1. How can the family tree display after restarting the Legacy Software? You can display it either by the last person you were viewing, or by the Preferred Start up family. You can set it on the General tab of the Options / Customize window. 2. Why are few picture buttons coloured and others are not? On the display screen you will find the buttons with pictures on them to access the pictures, notes, siblings, spouse, parents, addresses, and sources. If there is input filled in, the corresponding button is coloured. However, If the information is not there yet, the buttons would not be colourful and would be grey out. This way, you get to know which one has information and which one do not have it. 3. How can I get back to my own entry after adding latest information? Legacy family tree software offers both – History List and a Bookmark List. The History List tracks the last two hundred individuals that you view, add, or edit. When you click on the Bookmark button in the lower left corner of the Family/Pedigree view, you can choose to go back to anyone you have been working with. The Bookmark feature helps you to drop a place keeper on any person you wish for. Just right-click on the Bookmark button to drop a bookmark. Return to a bookmark, click the Bookmark button, and select the desired person, or, if they were the last one set, just click on their name to the right of the Bookmark. 4. How can I tell the number of people and families in my Family File? You can display information on your Family File by displaying the Family File Information window. You can click on the Help pull-down menu. Along with the number of individuals and families, it also shows other information on your Family File. 5. How do I see two views of the same Family Tree File? You can see up to seven different views of Family File at the same time. You can add another view, select View / Split Screen from the Menu Bar. 1/2
If you use two or more views, you can display separate parts of your family tree at the same time, allowing you to make comparisons. 6. How do I display two different Family Files at the same time? You can have two different Family Files open at the same time. This is a fantastic way to compare files. Add a second Family File, first, select View / Split Screen from the Menu Bar and click the Yes button when prompted to open a second file. After that, you can select the other Family File you want to see from the Open Family File window. You can then click between the two-Family Files and all menu. Interestingly, toolbar controls work with the highlighted file. You can even drag-and-drop people from one file to the other. 7. Can I change the background colours? Yes, you can change the background colour. There is a choice of selecting the colours. You can select any colour for the background of the Family View and Pedigree View. Legacy Software also gives you the opportunity to even choose a background pattern from a supplied list or use any image of your choice in a bitmap file format. Change the background, you would need to right click on the background of either the Family View or Pedigree View and then choose the “Change Background Colour/Pattern.” The Background Colours and Patterns window appears. You can choose the colour or pattern by clicking on it. If you want to select a distinct colour or pattern that does not display, press the Set button below the colour or pattern section. 8. How to print large on the screen so I can see it better? All the windows and dialog boxes in Legacy are re-sizable. When you stretch them larger, Legacy automatically re-sizes everything on them, including the text. If the text is smaller than what you can comfortably see, you can change the smallest font size by choosing Fonts tab on the Options / Customize screen. Change the Min. Font Size setting in the Screen Fonts box to a larger number and then press Save. 2/2
