  1. DATA TAKING DURING 2004-2005 NAUTILUS EXPLORER 3 ·10-19 3·10-19 No veto applied • The longest scientific run of EXPLORER and NAUTILUS, more then 500 days • These data (since May 2004) will be also used for IGEC2 analysis

  2. EXPLORER AND NAUTILUS DURING C6 NAUTILUS EXPLORER

  3. CHANGES IN EXPLORER Jan 2005 April2005

  4. EXPLORER and NAUTILUS - 2005 EXPLORER ~ 50 Hz @10-20 Hz-1/2 NAUTILUS 10-21 Hz-1/2

  5. NEXT UPGRADE • NAUTILUS sensitivity is presently bounded by thermal noise. An improvement in sensitivity is expected if temperature is lowered from 3K to 100mK • EXPLORER sensitivity is limited by electronic noise. A double SQUID amplifier is ready to be used in order to improve the apparatus sensitivity

  7. Possible Improvements EXPLORER Teff~ 2mK h ~ 3 10-19 Teff~ 200uK h ~ 1 10-19

  8. Possible Improvement NAUTILUS Teff~ 2mK h ~ 3 10-19 Teff~ 200uK h ~ 1 10-19

  9. NAUTILUS with a new amplifier • SQUID amplifiers 100 times better than present ones are becoming available • Implementing such a device on Nautilus cooled at 0.1 K would yield: Teff<50 K h ~ 5 10-20
