  2. Personal Info. • Born and raised in S. California • Hold valid teaching credentials in Spanish, History, and Math • Former tennis, basketball, and football coach • Member of the Foreign Language Association of O.C. • Grandfather – ask to see a picture of my granddaughters.

  3. Education Background • Graduate of Corona High School • Graduate of Riverside City College • AA Degree in General Studies • Graduate of Lubbock Christian University • BS Degree in Secondary Education • Graduate of Azusa Pacific University • MA Degree in School Administration

  4. Teaching Experience • 33 years overall • 3 years at Midland Christian High School • 2 years at Morton High School • 28 years at Esperanza High School

  5. Keys to success… 1. Memorization, memorization, memorization

  6. Keys to success… 2. Conscientiously completing all HW* *a bonus extra credit point is awarded each chapter for a completed hw packet.

  7. Keys to success… Homework is graded on a basis of RELATIVE accuracy. ie… 1. Complete sentences must include a conjugated verb. 2. Crossword fill-ins must fit in the blanks. 3. Answers need to make some sort of sense. 4. At least ½ of answers lack “major” errors.

  8. Keys to success… 3.Learning the material when it is presented. Comprehensive / Mastery Plus

  9. Keys to success… 4. Willingness to USE the language both IN and OUT of the classroom

Extra Credit options (guidelines posted webpage) 50 pts possible per semester option #1 – P&S Aeries log-in by the end of Sept. option #2 - Internet Activities option #3 – Spanish Country Calendar option #4 – Speaking Prompts 2. Tutoring available on Tues. and Thurs.

  11. What else can they do… 3. Re-testing If they have a bad day on a chapter exam, and all of us do at sometime or another, then they may re-take a chapter exam ONLY under the following guidelines: -They must have a note from Mom or Dad verifying that you have gone back over all of the powerpoint presentations for the chapter posted on my webpage and their boardwork sentnences. -They must do the re-take before the next chapter exam. -They may only score up to 70% on the re-take.

  13. What Can You Do? *especially 1st quarter (set the tone, establish the habit) 1. Monitor your child’s grades on Aeries on a weekly basis. (xc) 2. Ask to see your child’s homework on a nightly basis. 3. Ask your child to read aloud to you in Spanish once or twice a week. 4. Help your child seek out opportunities to use the language.

  14. What Can You Do? 5. Provide other venues where your child can practice speaking, listening, reading or writing in Spanish. ie… travel, restaurants, Spanish TV, Spanish radio, tapes, videos, podcasts, etc. 6. Have your child teach you what we are learning in class.

  17. Quizzes and Tests Each chapter has its own vocabulary and grammar 2 vocabulary quizzes (15-36 pts.) 2-3 grammar quizzes (15-35 pts.) Chapter Exam @ every 2 weeks (70-100 pts.) Departmental Common Assessments each quarter (value varies)
