Data Sharing in the Hyperion Peer Database System

This paper presents an innovative data-sharing management system called Hyperion, designed to facilitate data exchange in peer-to-peer environments. It introduces mapping tables and coordination rules to align different data sources' schemas and vocabularies. By translating query requests through these associations, users can seamlessly access information without needing to understand remote identifiers. The Hyperion project aims to address significant data management challenges in P2P data-sharing paradigms. Discover the architecture, services, and mechanisms that empower efficient data sharing.

  2. Data-Sharing between Sources I want info forsunny destinations I have flight UA928 I have info for Airport codes • Establish associations between the schemas and vocabularies of different sources • Use these associations to translate query requests between the sources (note: users don’t care/know about remote identifiers)

  3. Highlights… • We introduce an architecture for a data-sharing data management system • We propose mechanisms called mapping tables and coordination rules to support data-sharing services in the system • We propose a query mechanism for data-sharing environments

  4. The Hyperion Project URL: http://www.cs.toronto.edu/db/hyperion/ Project objectives: To investigate the data management issues that are raised by the P2P data-sharing paradigm Basic (architectural) design principles: • No global (common) schemas/vocabularies/… • Each peer source manages its own data • Each peer source manages its own acquaintances.
