Bunraku Japanese puppetry highly sophisticated form of puppetry integrated into Kabuki theater (traditional Japanese theater with masks and face paint) initially used one puppeteer per puppet and quickly developed to having three puppeteers puppeteers wore all black and would become invisible against the black background
